Firat University is a state university in Elazığ, a city in the Eastern Anatolia region of Turkey. The university was established in 1975.
With around 37,000 students, Firat University is one of the main higher education institutions in Eastern Turkey. There are 17 faculties which include a school of medicine along with faculties of medicine, science, education, theology, engineering, architecture, sports science and several more. In addition, there are 13 vocational schools, including the academy of civil aviation and the social sciences vocational school.
There is a strong focus on scientific and technological advancement and research at Firat University, which was first established when it was known as Elazığ Technical College in 1967.
There are 16 sports facilities with 12 sports teams for students to join along with some 46 student clubs with interests ranging from cyber security to cinema.
There is accommodation for up to 700 students along with plenty of facilities including a place of worship, cafeteria, health centre, bank, post office and even a hairdresser.
