The Department offers the Bachelor of Communication (Honours) in Public Relations and Advertising with two concentrations: Public Relations and Advertising and Branding. Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Public Relations or Advertising (25260693) The Department invites applications for two full-time positions at the ranks of Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor in Public Relations or Advertising. Successful candidates will be expected to conduct cutting-edge and impactful academic research, pursue prestigious external research grants, supervise research postgraduate students and undergraduate honours projects, contribute to excellence in teaching and learning, and fulfill service and administrative duties. Those appointed at Associate Professor or Professor rank will also be expected to assume higher-level administrative responsibilities and mentor junior faculty members. Requirements: A PhD degree in Communication or a related discipline; A strong publication record in high-impact international refereed journals; and Substantial tertiary teaching experience. Preference will be given to candidates with industry experience in strategic communication and/or expertise in any of the following areas: stakeholder psychology and engagement, organisational agility, AI applications in public relations, AI-powered advertising, computational advertising, and data analytics for advertising. Candidates with local experience are also highly valued. The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract for up to three years, commencing in September 2026 or on a mutually agreed date. Re-appointments thereafter will be subject to performance and mutual agreement. Outstanding candidates at Associate Professor or Professor rank may be considered for tenure on appointment. This position is situated within the SIT x NVIDIA AI Centre (SNAIC). This role is part of an industry innovation project with a large consumer goods company, where you will develop an evaluation framework for vision-language model (VLM) with applications in the personal care sector. The research focuses on fine-grained VLM capabilities such as spatial reasoning, temporal grounding, event tracking, and domain knowledge using a curated multimodal dataset. Key Responsibilities Manage the research project together with the Principal Investigator (PI) and industry partner to ensure all project deliverables are met Design and implement evaluation frameworks and metrics for vision-language models Develop annotated video datasets and capability-tagged evaluation tasks Build end-to-end evaluation pipelines and failure mode analysis tools to analyze VLM performance across reasoning dimensions Prepare technical reports, publications, and industry-facing deliverables Mentor student assistants Candidates are to communicate with any internal or external parties to ensure project deliverables are met. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates with strong skills and relevant experience for a postdoctoral research fellowship on the EPSRC-funded EXPRESS Programme Grant, ’Exploiting Single Source Precursors for the Electrochemical Growth of Functional 1D and 2D Metal Dichalcogenide Semiconductors’. EXPRESS is a flagship, interdisciplinary 5-year research programme led jointly by the Universities of Southampton and Warwick, bringing together internationally leading teams from across chemistry, physics and electronic engineering.  The Programme aims to deliver a step-change in the understanding and control of electrochemical growth of functional TMDC semiconductors, combining precursor design and synthesis, electrochemistry, theory, advanced characterisation and device integration. In addition to the essential disciplinary research skills, candidates should demonstrate genuine enthusiasm for collaborative working, the ability to communicate effectively across disciplines, and well-developed organisational skills. This position is primarily concerned with the electrodeposition of transition metal dichalcogenides. The successful candidate will work within the electrochemistry team led by Phil Bartlett in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of Southampton, and will be required to be flexible and interact effectively with colleagues across the wider EXPRESS consortium to fulfil the scientific goals of the Programme.  The position is offered for until 05/07/2028 in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for up to 3 further years. The postholder will lead the initial development of a report and evidence portfolio that will help to inform a Horticultural Strategy for Northern Ireland as part of the Maximising UK Adaptation to Climate Change (MACC) Hub, funded by NERC and DEFRA. The post holder will design and facilitate a structured programme of stakeholder engagement across Northern Ireland's horticultural sector, drawing on the Three Horizons framework to identify shared visions, barriers, and transition pathways for climate-adapted food production. The post is hosted within the Co-Centre for Climate, Biodiversity and Water at Queen's University Belfast and will work in close partnership with the Climate NI Team at Northern Ireland Environment Link (NIEL) and the MACC Hub coordination team, contributing to climate adaptation-focused knowledge sprints across all four jurisdictions of the UK. About the person The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria: Have or be about to obtain* a relevant PhD in a discipline related to food systems, agri-food geography, rural sociology, environmental science, ecology, agriculture, horticulture or closely related field (*must be obtained within 3 months of commencement of employment). Demonstrable experience of planning and delivering participatory or stakeholder engagement research, including workshop facilitation with diverse groups. Experience of applying qualitative or mixed-methods research approaches to food systems, agricultural transition, community development, or environmental management.
