About the Role Join a 3-year NHMRC-funded project related to a novel gut-brain circuit that controls mood and behaviour as our Research Fellow, where you will have the opportunity to undertake research in the discipline of Human Physiology under the broad direction of the Chief Investigator. Working closely and collaboratively with the Chief Investigator and wider Research Team, you will be able to contribute to project design and implementation, the analysis of data and the preparation of manuscripts for publication. You will have the opportunity to actively report on new and current research related to the research program, through generation of high-quality publications and conference presentations. In addition, this position will contribute to the preparation of applications for externally funded research funding and may assist in leading students involved in the research Project, according to the University’s policies, practices and standards. You will also work across the following responsibilities: Actively contributing to the research project by collaborating with the Research Team to successfully deliver project milestones and Key Performance Indicators. Independently contributing to the planning and execution of research by offering new and innovative ideas, reviewing relevant literature and other sources of information, actively participating in the production of data, contributing to the writing and editing of grant applications and attending seminars, meetings and conferences. Playing a lead role in coordinating, planning and executing the project tasks required to collaborate with industry partners. Independently contributing to ethical, high quality and innovative research and evaluation through activities such as scholarship, publishing in recognised high quality journals and assisting the preparation and submission of bids for external research funding. About You You are an experienced researcher who is passionate about Human Physiology and is curious about the gut-brain circuit that controls mood and behaviour. You hold a PhD in physiology or neuroscience or related areas, highlighting your commitment to contributing to research centred around better understanding the human body. Your well-developed interpersonal and communication skills are highlighted by your innate ability to foster an inclusive research team environment, including experience supervising junior staff and students, and your wide-spreading network of diverse stakeholders and industry partners. You will also be able to demonstrate the following: Demonstrated research experience in terms of publications in high quality journals, and presentations at a national and/or international level in a field relevant to this project. Demonstrated experience in, or understanding quantitative research methodologies relevant to the project including some or all of the following: electrophysiology, secretion experiments, small animal surgery, in vivo animal work, mouse behavioural analysis, molecular genetics, use or maintenance of transgenic mouse colonies, microscopy, immunohistochemistry. Demonstrated experience delivering project targets on time, and the ability to plan and execute data collection and analysis related to these projects. Demonstrated ability to critically review the literature in relevant fields. Job Description As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Fellow to join an exciting applied research project within the Infocomm Technology cluster at SIT. This project addresses the critical challenge of delivering real-time Artificial Intelligence (AI) services in Internet of Things (IoT) networks, where latency and timeliness are paramount. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end investigation of novel edge-assisted offloading strategies for IoT networks. The role will bridge rigorous theoretical work with hands-on offloading algorithm design and development for IoT networks. The core responsibility is to build and validate edge-assisted offloading strategies, complete with software APIs, through rigorous simulations and live demonstrations. This position is ideal for a researcher with a passion for solving complex problems at the intersection of wireless communications, edge computing, and machine learning, and who is eager to translate theoretical insights into practical, IoT systems. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure all project deliverables are met. Derivation of closed-form theoretical latency and timeliness expressions for cloud-hosted AI services and edge-assisted offloading strategies.
