The Federal University of Tocantins was founded in 2000. It is one of the leading higher education institutions in Brazil in terms of implementing quotas for indigenous students in the selection process. The university is located in Tocantins, central Brazil. Tocantins is the newest of the 26 Brazilian states that were established in 1988. Its location in a transition zone between the Amazon rainforest and the Brazilian Savanna, the Cerrado, makes it an area of rich natural beauty. Students studying at the university can make the most of these beautiful outdoor spaces while experiencing the Brazilian culture first hand. The university has seven campuses spread across the state of Tocantins. These include Araguaína, Arraias, Gurupi, Miracema, Palmas, Porto Nacional and Tocantinópolis. Each campus is fully equipped with specialist laboratories, libraries, auditoriums, classrooms and social spaces. The university offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes. There are more than 50 undergraduate courses, 31 masters courses and six doctorates available for students to study. In addition to classroom studies, students are given the opportunity to participate in various projects within the local community. These include teaching and tutoring programmes, scientific research, and event organising. These activities are designed to enrich the academic experience of the students. At the heart of the university are six main values: respect for life and diversity, transparency, commitment to quality, creativity and innovation, social responsibility, and equality. The university uses these values in its mission to train qualified citizens and professionals, committed to the sustainable development of the Amazon.

The Faculty of Law at the University of Helsinki is seeking a University Lecturer for a fixed-term position from September 1, 2026, to August 30, 2028, who can teach public law, particularly international law. The responsibilities of the University Lecturer in Law include providing undergraduate education as well as supervising and examining theses in the Bachelor of Laws program and in one or more of the faculty's Master’s programs. The University Lecturer will conduct independent scientific research and manage jointly agreed administrative and other tasks. Teaching responsibilities also include instruction under the Open University brand. The place of employment for University Lecturers is Helsinki, but the position also involves teaching duties at the faculty's education unit in Vaasa. The role is teaching-oriented. Requirements for the Position and Evaluation of Qualifications Candidates must hold a relevant doctoral degree in accordance with the University of Helsinki's regulations and demonstrate the ability to provide high-quality research-based teaching and supervise theses. The University Lecturer must have good teaching skills. The language of instruction for the position is English. When assessing candidates' qualifications, both scientific and teaching merits will be considered. Scientific merits include scientific publications and other research results of scientific value. Teaching merits will take into account teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce learning materials, other achievements in teaching, and, if necessary, a teaching demonstration. The salary for the position is based on the university's salary system for teaching and research personnel, at levels 5-6 (-7). Additionally, a performance-based salary component will be paid. The gross salary for the position will be approximately €42,000–56,000 per year, depending on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. About the Centre for Quantitative History (CQH) The Centre for Quantitative History (CQH) is a focal institution studying economic, financial, and social history in a quantitative fashion, hosted at the HKU Business School in collaboration with the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences. The Centre was founded as an Area of Excellence designated and funded by the Research Grants Council of the University Grants Committee of Hong Kong. The Role The appointees will primarily work with the Principal Investigators on the study of China’s economic, financial, social, and other histories, oriented toward academic journal publications. They will lead a few Research Assistants and actively contribute to various activities of the Centre. The responsibilities of this role include moderating research seminars, overseeing the Centre’s publications, and coordinating its seminars and biennial conferences. They are expected to engage in the academic life of the Centre by regularly attending readings, lectures, presentations, and other campus activities. Qualifications and Qualities Applicants should possess Ph.D. degree in Economics, Finance, History, or a closely related field in the recent three years (or will complete the Ph.D. degree before 2026 Summer). They should have a well-demonstrated interest in quantitative history research, and excellent communication skills in Chinese and English for both writing and oral presentation. This is an open-discipline call. We are seeking outstanding Humanities scholars capable of developing a creative and innovative programme of research and teaching bridging existing disciplinary strengths in HKUArts and artificial intelligence applications. The appointee will have their tenure home in their specific (inter)disciplinary unit in the Faculty of Arts, but will be jointly appointed to the School of Computing and Data Science and will also become a member of the Institute of Data Science (IDS). As an AI+Arts hire the appointee will foster cross-disciplinary collaborations between strategic research areas in the Faculty and, with the support of the Arts Technology Lab and its staff, take a leading role in applying artificial intelligence (AI) to their research and teaching in the Arts and Humanities. They will develop and maintain high-calibre research, publish their research findings with reputable journals and/or presses, and present their research at conferences, secure external funding through applications for grants, teach courses, mentor students, contribute to service and engage in the scholarly activities of the Faculty. Their teaching will support our AI-rich programme offerings. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in a relevant field. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a robust research record with a cross-disciplinary approach spanning multiple subfields; a strong commitment to excellence in both research and teaching; and proven academic leadership qualities to contribute to interdisciplinary programmes such as BA&BEng(AI&DataSc) and BA(HDT).
