Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO) is located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The university was established in 1979.
The university was first given the name the University of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO). In 2003,the name was changed to the University to Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro, but the acronym was kept.
There are five campuses across the city.
The university is home to five centres including the centre for biological and health sciences, exact sciences and technology, human and social sciences, legal and political sciences and letters and arts. The university offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
There is one hospital affiliated with the university as well as eight libraries and 106 laboratories.
There are a range of scholarships and financial aid available for students.
