The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, sometimes known as the "University of Brazil" and commonly abbreviated to UFRJ, is one of the largest and best known universities in Brazil. Founded by the Brazilian State in 1792, the university has gone on to have an enormous influence on public life in Rio, being responsible for laboratories, libraries and hospitals.

The University operates across a number of campuses and facilities throughout Rio de Janeiro, but is primarily focused on Ilha do Fundão, an artificial island off the western shore of Rio’s famous Guanabara Bay. This campus, known as College City, offers a huge range of services and activities for students including a free shuttle bus services for crossing Rio de Janeiro, various restaurants and cafes, a sports centre, as well as accommodation for students.

UFRJ can also lay claim to a number of high-quality academic facilities, such as the largest ocean tank in the world, as well as a domestically operated maglev train system.

 As one might expect for a higher education institution of this size and reach, UFRJ offers a huge range and variety of undergraduate courses (more than 170), as well and numerous avenues for postgraduate and research students. UFRJ also distinguishes itself with a significant level of international co-operation, with extensive opportunities for foreign students to come and study in Rio.

The university can also boast of having produced a succession of successful alumni, including writer Jorge Amado, Nobel Peace Prize nominee Osvaldo Aranha, and physician Oswaldo Cruz.

Job Description FACULTY OF SCIENCE  DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE  The Department presently offers BSc, MSc, MPhil, and PhD programmes, and is now seeking outstanding applicants for the following faculty positions on tenure-track.  Assistant Professor (Computer Science) (25260312) The appointees will perform high-impact research, teach and supervise students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and contribute to professional and institutional services. Collaboration with other faculty members in research and teaching is also expected. They will be encouraged to collaborate with colleagues within the Department to contribute to two special thematic applications including (a) health informatics and (b) security and privacy-aware computing, and to pursue new strategic research initiatives under the Department/Faculty/University. Job Description SCHOOL OF CHINESE MEDICINE TEACHING AND RESEARCH DIVISION The School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) was established in 1999 and offers comprehensive education programmes in Chinese medicine, including both undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine. The School is engaged in a wide range of research projects, provides Chinese medicine healthcare services to the community, and seeks to foster modernisation of the Chinese medicine profession. To consolidate the strengths of innovative research, the School has established eight high quality theme-based Research Centres equipped with advanced equipment and facilities. The highlighted strategic research areas in the School include (1) Precision medicine and phenomics study; (2) Translational medicine and innovative drug discovery; and (3) Authentication and testing of Chinese medicines. Full Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor (23240133) The School of Chinese Medicine now invites applications for a faculty position at the Professor / Associate Professor/Assistant Professor level. Candidates with a strong background in pharmaceutical science and expertise in pharmaceutical formulation in Chinese materia medica, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, and drug delivery system are invited to join the School. Preference will be given to candidates with appealing external grant record, outstanding publications and leading potential in areas of innovative drug delivery system and pharmaceutical technology. The appointee is also expected to teach subjects related to Pharmaceutics in Chinese Materia Medica, Biopharmaceutics, and Progress in Advanced Pharmacy and Pharmacokinetics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, establish a vigorous research program in the areas of interest, and develop research cluster by means of intra- and inter-programmatic collaborations. Job Description SCHOOL OF CHINESE MEDICINE Research Assistant Professor (25260263) Applications are invited for the following posts in the Research Centre for Herb Polysaccharides and Intestinal Immunology, which is in the HKBU school of Chinese medicine: Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is establishing the Research Centre for Herb Polysaccharides and Intestinal Immunology, aimed at exploring the medicinal potential of herb polysaccharides and their applications in promoting health. We invite passionate individuals with relevant backgrounds to join our team and collaborate in advancing research and application of herb polysaccharides. Responsibilities: Participate in research on the chemistry, intestinal immunology, and mechanisms of action of herb polysaccharides; Conduct research and development on new drugs and oral vaccines, exploring the potential of lymph-targeted therapies; Collaborate closely with industry and academic partners to translate research findings into practical applications; and Write research papers, reports, and grant applications. Requirements: A Ph.D. degree in Biology, Pharmacy, Immunology, Natural Medicinal Chemistry or related fields; Research experience in one of the areas including immunology, gut microbiome, cell biology, and/or molecular biology is desirable; Strong laboratory skills and research capabilities, with the ability to conduct independent experiments; and Team-oriented, with excellent communication skills and proficiency in English writing.
