Description We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in database systems with a strong theoretical foundation. We are looking for a candidate excited by the challenge of rethinking data systems in the face of modern constraints such as optimization under uncertainty, constrained query evaluation, or the design of efficient, explainable, and scalable query engines. The successful applicant will help design and build novel systems and algorithms that challenge traditional assumptions in databases, guided by both real-world needs and formal foundations. They will work at the intersection of systems and algorithms, in collaboration with faculty, students, and external partners. Key Responsibilities Lead independent and collaborative research on topics in database systems, including constrained query evaluation, optimization, and reasoning under uncertainty. Design and analyze novel algorithms or theoretical models related to modern data management challenges (e.g., query feasibility, data correlations, probabilistic evaluation, scalability). Prototype and evaluate data system components or extensions to existing open-source engines. Publish in top-tier conferences (SIGMOD, VLDB, PODS, ICDE, ICDT, etc.) and participate in the wider research community. Mentor students and contribute to a vibrant research culture at NYUAD. Participate in cross-disciplinary projects at CITIES, connecting data systems to applications in urban science, planning, and decision support. Qualifications Required: PhD in Computer Science or a related field, with a focus in databases, data systems, theory, or algorithms. Strong publication record in top-tier venues. Solid background in one or more of the following: Query processing or optimization Constrained or combinatorial query evaluation Data modeling under uncertainty or imprecision Design and implementation of database or data analysis systems Excellent programming and prototyping skills. Strong analytical and communication skills; ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT. Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules. Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry. Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research. Ensure safety in labs. Job Requirements A good degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, or a related field. Masters, PhD and/or relevant professional certifications would be advantageous. Deep technical specialist with 10 or more years of working experience in Automation, Robotics, Autonomous Systems, or related areas in development would be preferred. Experience in following areas is highly desirable: Hands-on experience in electronics/electrical. Programming of Microcontrollers and embedded systems. Working knowledge of programming languages such ROS/ROS2, Python, C/C++ Programming, Knowledge of subjects such as computer vision, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Kinematics and dynamics. Autonomous systems, Robotics and Automation. Industry 4.0 and Internet-of-Things. Advantageous to have prior knowledge in: Hands-on experience implementation of industrial robotics systems and performing offline simulation of robotic work cells. Digitalisation skills – IoT, data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mixed reality, etc would be advantageous. Programming and simulation software such as MATLAB, Gazebo and Tensor flow. Knowledge of Linux OS. Extensive hands-on experience and knowledge of industry practices and engineering principles to bring industry perspective to SIT. Keen interest in innovation projects, with demonstrated ability in developing solutions to technical problems. Strong supervisory skills and enjoy working closely with students in an educational environment. Demonstrate proficiency to keep abreast of development in the field and pursue professional certification programs. Possess industrial certifications in relevant areas will be an added advantage.

Job Purpose At SIT's Professional Officers Division, we bring our rich industry experience and technical skills into our work, creating a better physical environment where learning and innovation take place. We work with teaching programmes and innovation projects to improve the skills of our students and to strengthen & energise our industry and the wider community. A Professional Officer has a combination of job responsibilities relating to the following: participate in and manage innovation projects, manage digital technology related resources, and mentor & facilitate student learning. The Centre for Digital Enablement (CoDE) drives the initiatives to elevate digital competencies for academic staff and students within SIT. It works with various stakeholders, both internal and external, in upskilling digital literacy across the organization through literacy programmes and digital innovation projects in relation to the Digital Learning Spaces (DLS). For this role, you will spearhead the various cybersecurity enablement programmes in SIT, manage the cybersecurity related resources and initiatives within CoDE, and lead cybersecurity projects within SIT and with industry partners to support teaching and learning objectives. You will also be responsible for developing and delivering digital literacy courses to undergraduate students and academic staff as part of the institutional drive to ensure our graduates are ready for a highly digitally-enabled workforce. Additionally, you’ll be required to mentor and facilitate student learning by participating in and managing student projects. Key Responsibilities Cybersecurity Enablement Programmes Develop and own the Cybersecurity Competency Roadmap, providing guidance for SIT undergraduate students and academic staff in developing their cybersecurity competencies. Lead and oversee a range of cybersecurity enablement programmes to facilitate the growth of information security skills among SIT undergraduate students and academic staff. Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in cybersecurity, ensuring the continued relevancy and currency of the enablement programmes and Cybersecurity Competency Roadmap. Cybersecurity Projects Drive the adoption of sound information security practices across all CoDE projects. Collaborate with industry partners, faculty, Professional Officers and other stakeholders to conduct applied research in cybersecurity related technologies. Teaching & Student Mentorship Develop and deliver digital skills literacy related courses or workshops to undergraduate students and staff. This includes development of learning contents and activities, providing consultations on digital skills/technology related queries, and assessment and grading of students’ work. Mentor and facilitate student learning by participating in and managing student projects. Any other matters as directed by Director/Deputy Director of CoDE. Job Requirements A good degree in Computer Science or a related field. Masters, PhD and/or relevant professional certifications would be advantageous. 10+ years of working experience, including at least 5 in cybersecurity related fields. Proven experience in developing and deploying secure enterprise software solutions. Good programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, C++, JavaScript, etc. Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). Possess strong supervisory and project management skills. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure that the project can meet the milestones adhering to the stipulated timeline. Enjoy working closely with students in an educational environment. Demonstrate proficiency to keep abreast of development in the field and pursue professional certification programs.
