The Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) was established in 1960 as Brazil’s second federal university to be built in a rural area. It has become a leading university in business, design, innovation, science, and technology. The university is frequently ranked among the best universities in Latin America. UFJF’s main campus is located in Juiz de Fora, a city in the state of Minas Gerais. The city sits deep in the Paraibuna River valley and is the centre of a highly developed agricultural region producing bananas, coffee, rice, sugarcane and other crops and livestock. Juiz de Fora is also known for manufacturing plastics and textiles. UFJF has a second campus in the city of Governador Valadares, another agricultural trade hub. There are currently 93 undergraduate courses available at the university, as well as 36 masters programmes and 17 doctorate degrees. According to the General Index of Courses published by the Ministry of Education in 2015, UFJF’s undergraduate courses are among the top eight in Brazil. Some of these include architecture and urban planning, biological sciences, and electrical engineering. For students seeking to take a break from their studies, the university offers several leisure areas. UFJF’s Sensorial Garden allows visitors to escape their ordinary routine in favour of relaxation. The garden is divided into four parts, air, earth, fire, and water, so that visitors can enjoy a variety of flowers and plants. The university’s Botanic Garden is located in the Atlantic Forest, providing an authentic experience for visitors to truly immerse themselves in nature.

Classification: Academic Level B Salary package: $121,598 to $137,870 per annum plus 17% superannuation Term: Fixed term appointment (up to 3 years) Position Description and Selection Criteria: Research Fellow The Position The Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES) is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to undertake high-impact research at the interface of geodynamics, plate tectonics, and data-driven Earth science. The successful candidate will develop independent and collaborative research that integrates large-scale geodynamic and plate-reconstruction modelling with advanced statistical and machine-learning methods to investigate the deep-time controls on copper mineralisation. The role will involve developing reproducible computational workflows, generating predictive maps of copper-favourable environments, publishing original research in leading international journals, and presenting results at national and international conferences. The Research Fellow is expected to contribute across all three areas of academic activity: research, education, and service. This includes actively seeking external research funding, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supervising Honours, Masters and PhD students, mentoring early-career researchers, and engaging in outreach and service activities within the School, College and broader community. The allocation of effort across these areas will be discussed annually with the supervisor and aligned with the appointee’s research agenda and School needs. The position reports to Professor Rhodri Davies and offers the opportunity to play a leading role in interdisciplinary research that links numerical modelling, geological and geophysical data, and mineral systems science. The Person The successful applicant will hold a PhD in Earth Sciences, Geophysics, Computational Geoscience, or a closely related discipline, and will demonstrate a strong track record of independent research that integrates numerical modelling with geological or geophysical datasets. You will have experience with plate reconstruction tools such as GPlates and geodynamic modelling frameworks (for example G-ADOPT or equivalent), alongside demonstrated capability in statistical inference and/or machine-learning approaches. You will be able to articulate and prosecute an innovative interdisciplinary research vision, contribute new modelling or analytical methods, and integrate diverse datasets to deliver quantitative and predictive geological insights. A background or experience in mineral systems, mineral exploration, and/or economic geology is desirable but not essential. You will demonstrate a commitment to securing competitive external research funding, the ability and willingness to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and a strong track record (or clear potential) in supervising and graduating high-quality research students. You will be a collaborative colleague with excellent communication skills, able to work productively in a cross-disciplinary academic environment and contribute positively to team-based research and teaching. The role will encompass activities related to the financial modelling of zero-emission vehicles, fleets, and associated infrastructure, including data analysis, impact assessment, and tool development. It will also involve interpreting and reporting total cost of ownership (TCO) and total cost of logistics operations (TCoL) results to identify opportunities for financial optimisation, as well as collaborating closely with project participants. The research will be carried out with collaborators from several industrial and academic institutions. A budget for travel expenses will be provided. About you This is a Research Fellow position, so the successful candidate must have a strong background in mechanical/electrical engineering and should hold a postgraduate degree in business administration or economics. Experience working in interdisciplinary and multi-stakeholder research projects involving academia, industry, and public bodies. This position is situated within the Centre for Immersification, dedicated to applied research in immersive technologies and bridging the gap between academia and industry. Research staff at the Centre have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets relevant to industry demands while working on innovative projects within the university. The research team is seeking a Research Fellow or Research Engineer with strong expertise in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and social science methodologies to lead the user research and policy development, as part of an interdisciplinary team investigating harmful user-generated content in virtual worlds as part of a national research initiative on Online Trust and Safety. The primary responsibility of this role is to develop safety guidelines such as content moderation principles for user generated content, and recommendations for pre-screening, real-time monitoring and reporting, and design experiments and interventions to investigate the effect of guidelines. The successful candidate will work with a diverse team of faculty members, engineers, and industry partners, including renown researchers at the College of Computing and Data Science (CCDS) at NTU. Technical skills, natural curiosity, versatility, and enthusiasm are highly desired traits that will enable success in this fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Manage the research project together with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Design and execute surveys and interviews to collect data (including participant recruitment) to address the relevant research questions. Perform statistical analysis on survey/experimental data, and conduct thematic analysis on interview transcripts and open-ended survey responses. To lead and report research findings in a form of high-quality publications and present in international peer-reviewed conferences and journals. Design scenario-based experiments to test user responses to new reporting mechanisms Draft comprehensive security guidelines and reporting frameworks for virtual world users, regulators, and platform providers Validate these guidelines through consultations with expert panels and representative user groups to ensure cross-cultural relevance and clarity Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Job Requirements Have relevant competence in the areas of cybersecurity, human-computer interaction, communication, or psychology. Masters or Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, Cyber Security, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Information Technology will be advantageous. Strong interest and passion in cybersecurity. Expert proficiency in mixed-methods research (Qualitative & Quantitative), experience with systematic literature reviews, survey design, semi-structured interviews, and experimental study design is required. Familiarity with statistical analysis software (such as SPSS, SAS, or R) and qualitative analysis packages Demonstrated abilities in managing research projects on the ground end-to-end, from defining research questions to publishing results. Able to grasp new technology concepts quickly, and combine contrarian, out-of-the-box thinking when performing security assessments.
