Federal University Gashua was founded in 2013 by President Goodluck Jonathan. It was established in order to give every state of Nigeria access to higher education.
The university is located in Gashua, a town in Yobe State, Nigeria. 
There are five faculties within the university: faculty of agriculture, faculty of art and humanities, faculty of management science, faculty of sciences, and the faculty of social science. Each faculty is divided into different departments, which offer both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes. 
There are more than 20 courses available for students to study across all five faculties.

The appointment rank will be determined based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. For Assistant Professors, the appointment will initially be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of the second three-year fixed-term contract, subject to satisfactory performance. Exceptionally outstanding candidates at Professor/Associate Professor level may be considered for appointment on tenure terms, subject to the University’s approval.

The School of Computing and Data Science (CDS) strives to advance education and research across the fields of computing and data science, artificial intelligence, statistical decision sciences, fintech, and actuarial science. It aims to take an integrated approach to reform these academic disciplines and foster multidisciplinary research collaboration within the University and beyond. 	A Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field
	A strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching and proven qualities of academic leadership.
	A solid track record in research.
	Outstanding and internationally recognised research achievements are essential for appointment at Professor level.


What We Offer

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave, professional leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable. A start-up package that is commensurate with the needs and experience of the appointee will be provided.

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will support the research and implementation of a large-scale mental health and well-being project for primary schools in Hong Kong under the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences. Major tasks include:


	Assisting in the design and development of research studies and evaluation frameworks.
	Supporting the implementation of research activities and programme evaluation.
	Collecting and analysing data under supervision.
	Preparing technical research reports.

Requirements

The appointment (Post-doctoral Fellow / Senior Research Assistant) will be offered based on the qualifications and experience of the appointee:


	For the Post-doctoral Fellow post, applicants should have a Ph.D. degree or an equivalent
	qualification in Psychology, Social Sciences or a related discipline.
	For the Senior Research Assistant post, applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Sciences or a related discipline plus 3 years’ research experience since the award of the first degree; or a research Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Sciences or a related discipline plus 1 year’s post-qualification research experience.


 The appointee should possess:


	A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese.
	Strong research skills in Psychology or Social Sciences.
	Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Jamovi, or R), as well as MS Excel and Chinese typing.
	Experience in the implementation of community or educational research projects will be an advantage.


What We Offer

The appointment will commence in September 2026, on a two-year fixed-term basis for the Senior Research Assistant, and on a two-year temporary term for the Post-doctoral Fellow, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
