Your personal sphere of influence: The Doctoral School Computer Science DoCS (https://docs.univie.ac.at) founded in 2020 offers a structured doctoral programme that supports early-career research in the areas of Computer Science and Business Informatics. The programme includes world-leading researchers in Computer Science as supervisors and co-supervisors who pursue basic as well as applied research within an intensive doctoral teaching programme tailored to the scientific needs of students in small topical groups. The Doctoral School Computer Science provides the option of performance-based contract extensions to doctoral students who previously had a position as university assistant (prae doc) or as third-party funded researcher (prae doc) at the University of Vienna. This completion contract is meant to support a high-qualified DoCS fellow in the final phase of the doctoral studies. The successful applicant will get a contract as university assistant (prae doc) and will be working in the research group Data Mining and Machine Learning at the Faculty of Computer Science. The group’s research focuses on data mining - particularly clustering and representation learning - graph mining, and probabilistic machine learning. We place great emphasis on a relaxed, collaborative environment and a collegial atmosphere. This includes, among other things: Your primary responsibility is to complete and submit your dissertation. You will develop new methods in data mining and machine learning, particularly in the areas of clustering representation learning graph mining anomaly detection You will contribute to research projects and scientific studies in the above-mentioned areas. You will independently teach courses in accordance with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement or assist in doing so. You will publish internationally and give presentations. You will contribute to the organization of meetings, conferences, and symposia. You will participate in faculty, teaching, and research administration.  This is part of your personality: Required Qualifications: You hold a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering (Diplom, Master’s, or Magister degree), and a solid foundation in computer science is required. You are currently enrolled in a doctoral program (Computer Science or Business Informatics) at the University of Vienna and are a member of the Doctoral School of Computer Science. You have demonstrated outstanding academic performance (e.g., FÖP within one year, annual submission of progress reports, exceptional publication record). Doctoral Researcher in Cell Biology, Centre of Excellence in Immune - Endothelial Interfaces

The newly established Finnish Centre of Excellence in Immune – Endothelial Interfaces (IMMENs) invites applications for a fixed-term (2-years) position of Doctoral Researcher. The successful candidate will work in the research group of Dr. Kari Vaahtomeri at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki. Scientific context IMMENs, composed of research groups at the University of Helsinki (director Dr. Taija Mäkinen and Dr. Kari Vaahtomeri) and Åbo Akademi in Turku (Dr. Cecilia Sahlgren and Dr. Guillaume Jacquemet), investigates the role of lymphatic vessel endothelium in controlling immune responses. Current evidence shows that much of immune regulation occurs locally at the site of inflammation. Recent studies have revealed important crosstalk between lymphatic endothelium and immune cells, resulting in phenotypic changes that control immune cell trafficking, fate and function. IMMENs will develop novel experimental approaches to uncover the mechanisms and therapeutic potential of lymphatic endothelial immunomodulation in homeostasis, inflammation and tumorigenesis using in vivo genetic mouse models, advanced live and intravital imaging, engineered microchip models, primary cell co-culture systems and novel microscopy and analysis methods. In this context, Vaahtomeri laboratory addresses fundamental cell biology mechanisms of cell migration/interactions. Who are we looking for We are looking for candidates with a strong background in life sciences (for example, cell biology, biochemistry or mouse models). The candidate should be highly motivated to investigate key open questions in the fields of: Cell Biology Vascular biology Immunology At the pre-doctoral level, previous experience in cell biology, vascular biology, mouse models, immunology or high-end imaging approaches is considered an advantage.  Doctoral Researcher must obtain the right to pursue doctoral studies at the University of Helsinki within the trial period of six months. Candidates should be able to demonstrate abstract thinking as well as the potential to develop and pursue scientific projects in the fields relevant for this call. Furthermore, the candidate should have excellent communication skills in English and the ability to work in an international environment.  What we offer The initial appointment is for 2 years and includes a possibility for extension upon success in doctoral research. Full training will be given in the sediment analysis techniques necessary for the work. You should be an enthusiastic and highly organised individual who will be expected to participate in all aspects of the programme of work, including: the day-to-day running of the research project; sediment granulometry and geochemistry, data recording, entry and interpretation; communicating with Professor Hunt and the wider Shanidar Project team, and assisting with the production of internal reports and manuscripts for publication. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with the Principal Investigator (PI), co-PIs, research team and industry partners to ensure all project deliverables are met. Conduct insights-driven evaluations of existing QA/QC testing practices and identify opportunities to enhance efficiency and reduce redundant testing while maintaining compliance. Curate, standardize and integrate historical and statistical data to form the foundation of a structured database for construction QA/QC and traceability. Design and implement a digital chain-of-custody framework that captures assurance records including mill certificates, fabrication data, inspection results and carbon footprint information. Develop, train and validate AI models to automate QA/QC processes, enabling real-time verification, anomaly detection and consistency checks across records. Develop a cloud-based verification platform for digital data collection and real-time analytics. Develop and apply non-destructive testing (NDT) methods and data-driven approaches to determine material properties of reclaimed steel. Investigate geometric imperfections, accumulated deformations, and their impact on structural performance, particularly for compression members. Develop data-driven reusability assessment platforms integrating NDT data, machine learning models, and RFID-enabled traceability systems. Prepare and draft technical reports, conference/journal papers, and presentation materials; present research findings to internal reviews, industry partners and stakeholders. Engage with industry stakeholders throughout development, testing and refinement to ensure alignment with real-world requirements. To communicate in any relevant internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisor.  Job Requirements Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Civil/Construction Engineering, Engineering Systems or equivalent. Strong foundation in data engineering, AI/ML development, and software systems (e.g., data pipelines, cloud services, dashboards, web-based application development). Experience in handling real-world datasets and model development/deployment workflows. Domain expertise in building construction/civil/structural engineering, including familiarity with building management systems, software integration, data collection and analysis. Knowledge of construction QA/QC and quality control workflows (e.g., inspection processes, test documentation, traceability and compliance records) is an advantage. Strong background in structural engineering, structural mechanics, or steel structures. Familiarity with non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques for structural materials is desirable. Experience with structural modelling and analysis tools (e.g., finite element modelling, structural simulation) is desirable. Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams. Strong analytical and conceptual abilities; able to work both in a team and independently. Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Key Competencies Proficient in Python or other equivalent programming languages. Strong foundation in data analytics and data-driven modelling.
