About us King’s College London is seeking a highly experienced individual for the role of Director of its Post-Award Department within the Research Management and Innovation Directorate. The Research Management and Innovation Directorate provides strategic leadership and operational support for research and innovation activities across King's College London. About the role The post-holder will lead a large business-critical, high-performing unit managing the financial and related administrative requirements of the University’s portfolio of externally-funded grants and contracts. This role is central to the professional and efficient delivery of research support across the university, with a strong emphasis on financial integrity, transparency and communication. The individual will have a particular responsibility for strategic and operational leadership, including team development for the Post-Award staff who manage the administrative aspects of the post-award process for research and consultancy projects. In the last financial year, income from the combined research and consultancy portfolios totalled £M267. This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract. About you To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: Essential criteria Degree or equivalent professional qualification Significant experience of financial administration, with demonstrably strong accounting ability and comfort with complex transactions and processes and the ability to work well under pressure, prioritise and meet deadlines in the face of constantly shifting priorities and pressures Proven experience in leading, planning and organising complex and difficult projects and managing a large and varied turnover of research applications and agreements through their team/s as well as personally and a proven ability to take important and/or difficult, high-level decisions in consideration of the consequences Proven track record of senior operational leadership in research administration, upward influencing through persuasion and argument and contributing to high level strategic thinking. Job Description FACULTY OF SCIENCE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY With offers of BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, BSc (Hons) in Analytical and Testing Sciences, MSc in Analytical Chemistry, MPhil (by research), and PhD degrees, the Department presently has around 150 undergraduate students, 70 taught postgraduate students and 90 research students and project staff. The Department places a strong emphasis on both quality education and scholarly research/services, and has reached a significant milestone where its educational programmes are not only innovative but also accessible, and its major areas of research strength are well recognised and supported. It is now inviting applications for the position of: Associate Professor / Assistant Professor (25260426) Responsibilities: The appointee will be expected to conduct independent, high-quality research, foster interdisciplinary collaborations, and demonstrate research achievements of originality and depth. The ideal candidate will have the potential to become a leading international scholar and contribute to impactful research and innovative technological applications. The appointee will also supervise MPhil and PhD students, develop a vigorous research program at the forefront of basic and translational chemical / environmental engineering, and engage in broader scholarly activities such as organising academic conferences, symposia, and seminars. The University of Southampton is inviting applications for a postdoctoral position in gravitational-wave astronomy. The successful candidate will join Greg Ashton’s STFC-funded programme, Advancing Gravitational-Wave Astronomy Using Artificial Intelligence, to work on computational Bayesian inference methods and their astrophysical applications. Southampton's School of Mathematical Sciences is home to a large research group in gravitational physics, comprising 9 staff members, over 15 postdoctoral researchers, and approximately 15 PhD students. Research in the group includes black-hole and neutron-star physics, gravitational-wave source modelling and data analysis, gravitational self-force modelling and numerical relativity. The group is involved in the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, the LISA Consortium, the Einstein Telescope collaboration and the Cosmic Explorer consortium. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of research in gravitational-wave astronomy. The applicant will have, or be about to obtain, a relevant PhD degree in physics or mathematics. This is a full-time post, available from the 5th of January 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is funded for two years with the possibility of a 1-year extension. Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Before the qualification is awarded, the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
