Applications are invited for an ambitious Research Fellow to work at the University of Southampton and contribute to a nationally-leading research programme funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) through the NIHR Maternity Disparities Consortium. The NIHR Maternity Disparities Consortium is a £50 million national initiative bringing together a diverse range of organisations with expertise in research, capacity development and working with people and communities to deliver a step change in maternity outcomes and developing future research leaders in this area of need. The research carried out by the consortium will focus on inequalities before, during and after pregnancy. The postholder will join the Preconception and Interpregnancy Health theme, which is evaluating a new system-wide blueprint for preconception and interpregnancy care and support. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will undertake a mixed-methods evaluation, using qualitative and quantitative research to understand the blueprint’s implementation, effectiveness and impact on maternity outcomes. You will play a key role in designing and delivering research, collecting and analysing data, publishing findings, working closely with NHS, community and third-sector partners, and contributing to knowledge exchange activities. The role offers excellent opportunities to develop your research profile, build collaborative networks, and contribute to improving outcomes for women and families, particularly those from underserved communities. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) fixed-term appointment until 31 May 2028, in the first instance. Schemes of Service: Research Division: Engineering Employment Type: Fixed Term Job Purpose As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry or government agencies in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to develop/produce/investigate coastal biodiversity and environmental sustainability related projects in the Engineering Cluster, SIT. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI) and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake these responsibilities in the project:  i. Field studies in coastal marine habitats involving fish, macroinvertebrates and potentially plankton sampling  ii. Laboratory based work involving sorting and processing of specimens and data collected during field work iii. Data analyses and technical report/scientific paper writing Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. To communicate with any internal or external parties to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisor. Job Requirements BEng (Hons) or BSc (Hons) for RE/RA or equivalent, with prior experience in coastal ecology preferred Key Competencies  Good organizational skills and excellent attention to detail is essential Possess leadership qualities, highly-motivated, responsible, and a fast learner Independent, but also able to work well with others in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe applications Experience in data analysis (using R, Primer, PC-Ord) is desirable, but training will be provided if necessary Show strong initiative and take ownership of work Major Challenges May require some level of physical fitness for extended periods of field work in tropical coastal environments Some weekend flexibility may be required

The doctoral project will focus on modern aspects of mathematical and numerical cosmology. The precise focus will be defined during the initial phase of the appointment in accordance with the aims of the position and the background of the successful candidate. Your personal sphere of influence: As a university assistant predoctoral, you will join the Gravitational Physics Group at the Faculty of Physics. The position is intended for a doctoral project in theoretical and mathematical gravitational physics, broadly within the area of mathematical and numerical cosmology. Possible research directions include mathematical and numerical aspects of structure formation in cosmology. The concrete doctoral project will take into account the previous expertise, interests and strengths of the successful candidate. The group offers a research environment for candidates who are interested in fundamental questions and who want to develop a strong and independent profile in theoretical physics. Your future tasks: You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:  You will work on a doctoral project in theoretical and mathematical gravitational physics, broadly connected to mathematical and numerical cosmology. You will present your research plan to the faculty and complete a dissertation agreement within 12-18 months. This will be reviewed and adapted on an annual basis. You will work on your dissertation and towards its completion in time, with a high level of independence. You will contribute to teaching (mainly exercise classes) within the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. You will fill some administrative tasks, contributing to the success and self-organization of the group for research, teaching and administration. You will actively participate in seminars, group meetings, and other activities of the group. You will continuously stay informed about the state of the art in your field. You contribute to outreach by publications, conference presentations and public activities. This is part of your personality: You have completed a Master’s degree or Diploma in physics, mathematical physics or a closely related field. Your Master’s thesis was in theoretical physics, mathematical physics or cosmology. You have a profound background in theoretical physics and mathematics. You have excellent grades in advanced theoretical and mathematical courses during your studies. You have a solid working knowledge of matter models in general realtivity, in particular Vlasov matter, and you are willing to deepen your expertise in the mathematical and numerical methods relevant for the dissertation project. You are able to read and work with advanced research literature independently. You have experience in scientific writing, for example through a Master’s thesis or comparable written research work. You have an excellent command of written and spoken English. You are motivated to work independently while also contributing constructively to a research group.
