The Department of Geography at Durham University seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in Human Geography who has expertise in the field of Health Geography that will complement and extend our current work in our Geographies of Life research cluster. We encourage applications in health geographies broadly defined. This could include but is not limited to: political economies and political ecologies of health; health and environment; more-than-human health geographies; feminist, queer and decolonial approaches to health; health and geohumanities; care economies; mental well being; disability; neurodiversity; and health inequalities and social justice. The successful candidate will develop world class scholarship in their field, and we encourage work that develops a range of theoretical, conceptual, and/or methodological approaches. They will have completed a PhD in a relevant field, have a track record of internationally excellent and agenda setting publications and demonstrate a track record of, or potential for, securing external funding. They will have experience of, or show a commitment to, delivering excellent teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and Master's-level teaching. In addition to their research, the successful candidate will contribute to the department through administrative roles commensurate with their grade. Requirements The Department seeks to appoint a Research Assistant Professor. Candidates should have: A PhD in English linguistics or literature by the start of the appointment, a record of publications, preferably in leading journals, and demonstrated capacity to obtain governmental grants Obtained/been conferred a PhD degree or an equivalent qualification for no more than five years prior to the commencement of the appointment. The appointee is expected to publish scholarly outputs in respectable refereed international journals, and apply for competitive peer-reviewed grants offered by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council, other local/overseas competitive grants and/or fellowship schemes Teaching experience at both undergraduate and taught master’s programme levels, as well as recipient of external grants (e.g. from a government body) is a definite advantage Research: The Research Assistant Professor will (i) carry out research and submit papers to top journals (e.g., including 3*/4*-ranked journals as per the current departmental journal list), (ii) submit grant proposals to various funding bodies, (iii) organize seminars, reading groups, workshops or other related research activities (especially in relation to new departmental initiatives). Teaching: The teaching load will be three courses per year, distributed according to the needs of the Department and upon mutual agreement. The appointee may be required to teach and develop courses on both undergraduate and taught postgraduate level, and to supervise students' capstone projects. The role involves providing professional administrative support for the Academic Administration Team, supporting students and academic staff.  The post holder will need to be flexible and be able to maintain good working relationships across the University, including academic and professional services staff based within Faculties and within the Chief Student Office, such as the Exams and Graduation Team and Student Scheduling based within the Student and Academic Administration Department.  The post holder will be responsible for a variety of tasks and processes to support the student life cycle.
