École Normale Supérieure (ENS) is an elite institution of research and higher education, focusing on advanced undergraduate and graduate studies. It encompasses 15 teaching and research departments, spanning the main disciplinary fields in the humanities, life sciences and formal sciences. It is among the most prestigious of France’s Grandes Écoles. It prepares its carefully selected group of 2,400 students (including PhD students) for their role as future leaders in various professional fields: research, higher education, public service, media and private industry. Among the ENS alumni, 12 received Nobel Prizes, 10 received the Fields medal and many have been influential intellectuals.
