You will collaborate closely with experts at CERA and Melbourne Medical School, supervising students and shaping ambitious projects. You will strengthen your publication record and grant-writing portfolio within a highly resourced, innovation-driven research environment. What you will deliver: Conduct advanced in vivo and ex vivo imaging and microsurgery in rodents, focusing on retina, optic nerve and brain. Perform molecular, cellular and histological experiments, including AAV injections, tissue processing, immunostaining and stereological confocal image analysis. Develop and apply image and data analysis pipelines using ImageJ, R, MATLAB and relevant programming languages. Plan, troubleshoot and optimise experiments, maintain meticulous records, and prepare data, manuscripts and grant applications for dissemination. Supervise and train students and lab members, contributing to a safe, well-resourced and collegial laboratory environment. You may be a great fit if you: Hold a PhD in visual sciences, neuroscience or a closely related discipline. Demonstrate a strong publication or funding track record in visual science, neuroscience or related neurovascular fields. Bring substantial hands-on experience in rodent in vivo and ex vivo imaging, microsurgery, eye and brain dissection, and histology. Use advanced microscopy, ImageJ, R, MATLAB and core software such as Word, Excel, Prism and Adobe tools. Exhibit strong organisational skills, independence, problem-solving ability and adaptability within a fast-paced research environment. About the area The School of Social Sciences offers a rich learning and research environment spanning social and cultural studies in Australia and the world. The School supports undergraduate, postgraduate and research programs in seven Departments: Anthropology, Archaeology, Geography, Languages, Communication, Political Science and International Relations. The academic staff members are not only dedicated teachers but also internationally renowned scholars and researchers who are experts in their field. Archaeology has a vibrant research culture with internationally recognised researchers in a range of areas such as the archaeology of Indigenous Australia, rock art, heritage studies and maritime archaeology. The Archaeology Department teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in archaeology and forensics. The Centre for Rock Art Research + Management (CRAR+M) is a UWA Centre of Research Excellence with a collaborative research program with multiple Aboriginal communities and other stakeholders to enhance rock art research and management within Western Australia. Pilbara Dreaming: Rock Art, Water and Heritage Futures will demonstrate the critical role that Pilbara rock art has in the peopling and maintenance of the arid zone of Australia, from 50,000 years ago to the present. The interconnectivity of creation stories, art and water provides a unique lens on intergenerational knowledge transmission and cultural connections. The Pilbara’s mineral wealth is crucial to Australia’s economy, yet there is no heritage conservation strategy to protect this region’s cultural assets. This collaboration with Aboriginal Traditional Owners will reform policy and lead to improved conservation of heritage places of global significance. About the opportunity Make a significant contribution to understanding diachronic and synchronic symbolic behaviours at the national level. Key responsibilities include synthesis of background literature, participation in the schedule of fieldwork with 12 native title groups with a focus on rock art documentation, mobilise research content as part of the research team and develop stand-alone and collaborative research outputs around materiality and style, pigment recipes and dating. Work with support and guidance from senior Research Collaborators, and contribute to workshops, community meetings with Traditional Owners and Rangers, and develop co-presentations and publications. About you PhD in Archaeology specialising in rock art. A strong track record of excellence in research at a national level evidenced by a series of peer-reviewed journal articles published in high quality journals. Experience with FileMaker and Fulcrum data collection software and Adobe Lightroom for processing of photographic imagery collected during fieldwork. Experience with data analysis using software such as R for statistical analysis, including spatial statistics, 14C calibration, and site pattern recognition. Call for Proposals: Two Postdoctoral Positions in Quantum Technology The Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture has announced additional support for national doctoral education pilot in quantum technology (QDOC) aimed at postdoc recruitments. The focus is on supporting the training and supervision of the 90 doctoral students who are currently enrolled under QDOC across Finland. QDOC team invites applications for two postdoctoral positions that combines research with the development and delivery of a course or training module aimed at QDOC students nationally. The duration for each position is one year, with the possibility of extension for an additional year. While the positions are formally hosted at Aalto University, the employee may, at their own discretion, pursue a visitor agreement with a QDOC host university, subject to agreement by Aalto University and the host university of the visit. Clinical research in Mood Disorders The Faculty of Medicine and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust are collaborating in a clinical research study, led locally by Professor David Baldwin, investigating the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation in patients with depression. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with strong research and organisational skills to develop their expertise. Applications are invited from enthusiastic early-stage researchers to join the research team. The post involves undergoing training in certain psychopathological rating scales, providing study information and assessing potential study participants, monitoring participant progress during the study, entering data into on-line systems, assisting with study awareness-raising, and attendance at local and national research team meetings. The appointee joins an existing research team, working on this and other studies. They would ensure that the study is undertaken in accordance with Good Clinical Practice and other regulatory standards.
