We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in Coral Reef Restoration to join School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Faculty of Science. The Postdoctoral Fellow in Coral Reef Restoration will join an international and collaborative team of scientists and coral reef restoration practitioners contributing to the Coral Research & Development Accelerator Program (CORDAP) Project on enhancing substrate availability to accelerate reef recovery using novel underwater bioadhesives. The project addresses the challenge to reef recovery which is hindered by poor substrate quality or limited substrate availability. Our novel solution to this ever-accelerating problem is Underwater Bioadhesives that can be integrated into modern reef restoration strategies. Here we will use bioadhesive materials to strengthen substrates for coral settlement, stabilize reef slopes by binding loose rubble, and attach coral fragments as an alternative to concrete and chemical glues. We are a diverse team of experts who deliver world-class education and achieve breakthroughs in research with particular focus on: • Earth observation • natural resources • atmospheric composition and change • air quality and pollution • natural hazards • environmental science challenges (including reef restoration and energy). • future planetary habitability What you need to succeed Completion of a doctoral qualification in marine science, marine biology, reef ecology or related fields.  Demonstrated fieldwork experience/skills on coral reefs (e.g., diving, deploying instruments, underwater data and sample/image collection; operating research vessels, data management).  Demonstrated experience in undertaking ecological assessments of coral reef benthic communities.  Demonstrated ability to use underwater imaging and image processing or experience in photogrammetry.   Demonstrated proficiency in basic analytical (e.g., Image J) and statistical software (e.g., R or Matlab) and statistical analysis.  Solution-focused, and proven ability to contribute to a high performance and collaborative culture.  Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and publish research outcomes in a timely manner.  Desirable: Experience with laboratory aquarium systems and maintenance. Supervisory experience of postgraduate or undergraduate students and projects. Experience in applying for, and a successful track record in being awarded, grant funding. The teaching responsibilities of the colleague will consist of two parts: 1) to lead and develop School-level AI modules and 2) contribute partially to department-level teaching. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: The successful candidate must possess a PhD in computer science or a relevant field within the humanities and social sciences as per the respective descriptions below. Humanities We seek candidates who understand the intersection of AI and the humanities and are capable of integrating AI technologies into their research and teaching, primarily through natural language processing (NLP) to analyse historical texts, literature, and cultural data. Experience with AI tools such as machine learning for sentiment analysis, data mining for social trends, or computational linguistics for linguistic analysis will be highly regarded. Additionally, the ability to instruct students on how AI can be applied to the study of philosophy, ethics, and history is essential. Understanding AI’s implications for privacy, identity, and digital culture is also critical. Social Sciences We seek candidates who can incorporate AI into their research on human behaviour, social trends, and policy analysis and are knowledgeable about AI tools that can analyse large datasets, including predictive modelling, sentiment analysis, or social network analysis. Experience with AI applications in sociology, political science, communication, linguistics, or area studies is vital. The candidate should be equipped to examine AI’s impact on social structures, inequality, and ethics in their work and understand AI’s potential to shape societal norms and public policy. Familiarity with tools such as Python for data analysis and AI-driven surveys or data collection methods is advantageous. Description We are inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate in the Division of Social Science at NYU Abu Dhabi from individuals who have or will soon receive a PhD in Economics focusing on firm dynamics, structural transformation, economic growth, spatial economics. The appointment is for 3 years and will begin September 1, 2026, subject to final budget approval and UAE visa acquisition by the prospective post-doctoral candidate. The post-doctoral associate will spend half their time on independent research, and half their time on collaborative research with Professor Zheng Wang, Professor Samreen Malik, Professor Raul Santaeulalia-Llopis and Professor Wisam Alshaibi. The collaborative research will be on projects related to economic growth, structural transformation, and firm-level supply chains/business network formation in low-income countries (possibly, in conflict affected areas, CAF). We seek a candidate with expertise in both empirical and theoretical economics and strong coding skills. The role will involve designing surveys, working with existing datasets, and applying models of firm dynamics in settings of structural transformation and economic growth. We are interested in identifying spillovers of policy in this context, hence the emphasis in firm-level supply chains/business network formation and/or spatial economics. The position does not require teaching, but it may be possible to get teaching experience for compensation.
