Founded on 5 October 1989, Dr Rafael Belloso Chacín Private University (URBE) began academic activities in March 1990 with 567 students and 100 faculty members.
Named after Dr Rafael Belloso Chacín, a Maracaibo-born surgeon and pioneer in gynaecology and obstetrics, the university honours his professional and civic legacy.
It is located in northern Maracaibo, Zulia State, and moved to its permanent campus in 1990.
URBE offers undergraduate, postgraduate and extension programmes, with early faculties in engineering, administrative sciences and computer science later expanding to include electronic engineering and other disciplines.
The university has learning facilities, including computing, electronics, telecommunications, photography, graphic design and machining laboratories. Campus amenities include sports courts, cultural spaces, dance and theatre rooms, a recording studio, exhibition areas, the Dr Nectario Andrade Labarca Library and the university’s radio station URBE 96.3 FM.

Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor (23241272) The School of Chinese Medicine now invites applications for faculty position at the Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor level. Applicants should possess a PhD in medicinal chemistry/biochemistry/biology/medicine background and research focus on the area are invited to join the School. Excellent interpersonal communication and scientific writing skills are required. Preference will be given to candidates with appealing external grant record, outstanding publication and leading potential of industrialisation for development of prognostic and predictive biomarkers as well as innovative therapeutic intervention.
