The Dow University of Health Sciences is one of the oldest public universities in Pakistan. It was founded in 1945 as the Dow Medical College and became the Dow University of Health Sciences in 2003. The Higher Education Commission has ranked it among the top medical schools in Pakistan for five consecutive years.

The university is located in Karachi, in the Sindh province of Pakistan. Karachi is the largest city in the country and is considered Pakistan’s financial, industrial and transport hub. It is a diverse city, home to numerous ethnic groups, giving students an experience of multi-culturalism on top of their studies.

Offering a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses, the university educates students who wish to pursue a career in health sciences. As part of the academic curriculum, the university seeks to integrate research and community work.

An important part of the university’s mission is giving back to the local community. It is particularly committed to helping the less privileged by providing preventive and diagnostic treatment as well as rehabilitation facilities. It seeks to improve the health status of the community by increasing public awareness of how to stay healthy.

There are state-of-the-art facilities available for students to use at the university including museums, information technology equipment, and specialist laboratories. Students are also able to gain hands-on medical training from the university’s professional development centre, which has access to mannequins, and intensive care unit and operating theatre simulators. This gives students a realistic experience of what to expect once they graduate and begin working in the health science field.
