Position Description The Department seeks a distinguished scholar to provide visionary leadership and strategic direction, ensuring continued alignment with the academic missions of HKU and its tradition of excellence. The successful candidate will help the Department uphold the highest international standards of research and teaching, foster interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement, optimize the deployment of departmental resources, cultivate an inclusive and vibrant intellectual community, and expand the Department’s international collaborations and networks. Qualifications and Qualities Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related field, and stature equivalent to full Professor or Chair Professor rank; Outstanding record of academic achievements and international recognition in research, scholarship, and teaching; Proven experience in leadership and university-level administration; Strong international network and demonstrated ability to secure research funding; Effective interpersonal communication skills and a high standard of personal integrity; and Commitment to representing the interests of the discipline and the Department in the broader community. Compensation and Benefits A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of basic salary. Demonstrated research excellence in plant biology and omics research, including areas such as single cell transcriptomics, spatial transcriptomics, genomics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, population genetics, and crop science. Proven expertise in experimental design, research execution, data analysis, interpretation of results and scientific report writing within plant omics and multi-omics research. Strong track record of publications in high-quality international peer-reviewed journals, with demonstrated ability to prepare manuscripts for publication. Demonstrated ability to initiate and lead research projects, build collaborative partnerships, and effectively engage and negotiate with domestic and international industry stakeholders. Proven supervision, organisational and interpersonal skills, including the successful supervision of Higher Degree by Research students and a demonstrated commitment to organisational values including integrity, respect, excellence, equity, diversity and inclusion.
