Your personal sphere of influence: At the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry our highly motivated interdisciplinary team offers a position for a PraeDoc in the area of bioinorganic chemistry and chemical biology in an inspiring scientific environment. A main aim of our work is the development of innovative approaches to elucidate the role of transition metals in cancer growth and to exploit the unique properties of metal complexes in anticancer drug discovery. Projects will involve the characterization of biological activities of novel compounds, including metal complexes and/or metal-binding agents, in in-vitro cancer and immune cell models. Strong expertise and state-of-the-art instrumentation for preclinical development of novel anticancer drugs are provided by this team. The contract duration is 3 years with a preliminary limitation of 1,5 years and will automatically be extended to 3 years unless the employer hands in a non-extension declaration after 12 months. An extension up to a total of 4 years is then possible provided the excellent performance of the candidate. Your future tasks: Original research projects in the area of bioinorganic chemistry and chemical biology will be centered on the biological effects of novel tumor-inhibiting compounds, including their impact on immune cells in the tumor microenvironment and therapy resistance mechanisms in human cell models. Characterization of bioactivities by cell and molecular biology-based methods including flow cytometry, (confocal) microscopy, and immunofluorescence will take place in coordination with experts in synthetic chemistry to enable the optimal design of potential cancer therapeutics. You will be actively involved in research, teaching, and administration. You will participate in the preparation of internal reports, publications, academic articles, and presentations of scientific results at national and international conferences. You will be expected to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months. You will work on your dissertation and its completion. You will teach courses independently to the extent specified in the collective agreement. You will instruct bachelor and master students and carry out administrative tasks in teaching and/or research. This is part of your personality: You have a diploma or master’s degree in molecular biology, immunobiology, biological chemistry, biochemistry, chemistry, or equivalent qualification.  Experience in mammalian cell culture techniques (ideally working with cancer and immune cells) and characterization of compound bioactivity (ideally including flow cytometry and imaging-based methods). Basic experience in cancer research, immunology, and academic writing. Attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part a team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience in academic teaching (including e-learning) is desirable. Very good knowledge of English, basic knowledge of German. The Social Ethics Division conducts research on questions of just social organization using methods from the humanities and philosophy, as well as drawing on empirical social science approaches. This position strengthens department’s research profile in industrial digital twins, supporting industry and society as they move toward autonomous and intelligent machines and complex mechanical systems. The traditional field of mechanical engineering undergoes constant change as it is used to revolutionize the modern world and how we see it. Today, applications of mechanical engineering are often systems of systems consisting of mechanical engineered components with connections to electrical, materials, control, and engineering. The applications must operate in challenging environments. The mechatronics engineering must find a balance between mechanical engineering core principles and emerging and cross-disciplinary technologies. This position is aimed to do this from mechanical engineering perspective. Merits which are limited to purely electrical or software engineering do not suffice. After all, we are also looking for a passioned educator, and we can’t highlight too much the importance of teaching and learning activities within the field. Ideally, the candidate would be able to demonstrate interest in constant development of teaching. In the long term your work will have a social impact also in wider perspective.
