The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT. Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules. Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry. Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research. Ensure safety in labs. Job Requirements A good degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Masters, PhD and/or relevant professional certifications like registered PE would be advantageous. Deep technical specialist with 10 or more years of working experience in mechanical design, systems design and integration or related area in mechatronics would be preferred. Experience in following areas are highly desirable: Complex Mechanical systems development and integration Material and components selection including working knowledge with integration and selection of components/systems such as actuators, pumps, hydraulics system, PLC/Controls systems CAD software such as SolidWorks Simulation such as Finite element and CFD simulation Hands-on prototyping and fabrication skills to guide students in labs It will be advantageous with working knowledge of Material testing and material properties Programming of Control and PLC systems Software such as Ansys and Abaqus Extensive hands-on experience and knowledge of industry practices and engineering principles to bring industry perspective to SIT. Keen interest in innovation projects, with demonstrated ability in developing solutions to technical problems. Strong supervisory skills and enjoy working closely with students in an educational environment. Demonstrate proficiency to keep abreast of development in the field and pursue professional certification programs. Possess industrial certifications in relevant areas will be an added advantage.

Description As part of the Electrical Engineering program of the Engineering Division and the Center of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at NYU Abu Dhabi the group of Prof. Kostas J. Kyriakopoulos seeks to improve the autonomy of Field Robotic systems by fusing control theoretic and machine intelligence approaches. Formal models are directly applied in real experimental facilities. Marine Robotics is our current emphasis, without excluding candidates with prior experience on Aerial or Ground Systems. We are seeking a Post-Doctoral associate to join our expanding team and make significant contributions to the field. The researcher is expected to have (i) strong engineering skills to find innovative and cost-effective means to improve our research, and (ii) exemplary passion and motivation to enhance our multidisciplinary research at the intersection of control theory and machine intelligence. Methodologies of interest include: Robot modelling, Nonlinear and Optimal control, Reinforcement learning, and Data-driven modeling and control. The Post-Doctoral associate will be based at NYU Abu Dhabi and will directly report to Prof. K.J.Kyriakopoulos in close collaboration with other researchers, PhD students, and undergraduate research assistants. The Post-Doctoral associate will engage with our regular collaborators at local institutions in the UAE and abroad. Key responsibilities Conduct high-quality and innovative research primarily focused on Control theory and ML methodologies for Field Robotics; Support the supervisor in developing and implementing the research agenda; Reproduce results of the state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods; Design and implement experiments on real platforms operating outdoors, to compare our proposed work with SOTA baselines; Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for publication in high-impact journals and conferences; Create, maintain, and document high-quality research code for reproducibility; and Collaborate with scientists within the NYU Global Network and in Abu Dhabi. Minimum Qualifications Possessing a Doctoral degree from a recognized institution in Electrical, Mechanical, Naval or Aerospace Engineering. First-author peer-reviewed published papers (and/or under review) Demonstrable research experience involving integration of hardware and software of robotic systems. Demonstrable research experience in conducting experiments for field robotic systems Proficient programming experience in embedded, real-time software in C/C++ and Python with several years of practice Experience in maintaining high-quality code on Github Ability to visualize experimental results Effective inter-personal and team-building skills Self-motivated with an ability to work independently and in a team to get the work done Excellent communication skills (oral and written communication) Willingness to learn and confront new challenges The appointment will be for two (2) years with the option to renew further depending on performance. Description The Center for Genomics and Systems Biology (CGSB) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is announcing the opening of an Artist-in-Residence program and is welcoming applications from artists to fill the fourth position to start on September 1, 2026. The CGSB was established in 2012 to develop a world-class research environment at NYUAD and in the UAE. The NYUAD-CGSB includes a diverse array of research programs oriented around two main directions, “Biomedicine and Health” and “Environmental Adaptation and Sustainability”. The CGSB encourages and promotes scientific and cultural interactions by regularly hosting events such as lectures, workshops, and Science Cafés, facilitating the exchange of ideas and knowledge between program participants and the community. The Artist-in-Residence program is an extension of this effort and will bring together scientists and artists to collaborate, communicate, interact, and learn, promoting the creative thinking that drives innovation. The chosen artist is expected to collaborate with scientists on one or several of the CGSB-related research programs. The CGSB is located on the campus of NYUAD. NYUAD is a portal campus of New York University where classes of >400 international students from all over the world receive a liberal arts US education. NYUAD is located on Saadiyat Island, which is destined to become the cultural hub of the Middle East. It already hosts Le Louvre Abu Dhabi, and several other museums are in construction.
