Job description

University College Birmingham is seeking a Communications and Engagement Officer who will play a pivotal role in managing our communications and engagement with key stakeholders.

We are looking for a communication specialist with a passion for Higher Education to lead the development of creative and engaging content on a broad range of channels to support our student recruitment activities, enhance our reputation, and actively manage our external brand.

The successful candidate will act as the hub for all media communications, responding to media enquiries, liaising with colleagues internally and externally to tell our story.

The role requires experience of working in a media/public relations role, delivering media projects and strategic communications, and working in an energetic environment. The post holder will be an excellent communicator in all mediums, with the ability to motivate and support others to deliver.

Job description

University College Birmingham is seeking a self-motivated, multi-skilled General Tradesperson to join our busy and proactive Estates team, to support the maintenance of our portfolio of university   buildings both academic and residential. Duties will range from reactive maintenance and repairs to carrying out planned preventative maintenance and project work.

For this position, you must have:


	Experience in general building maintenance, including installation, fault-finding, and repairs.
	A recognised qualification or apprenticeship in a relevant trade, such as electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, or a similar field.
	The ability to deliver exceptional levels of customer service.
	Excellent initiative and problem-solving skills.
	The ability to collaborate effectively within a team.


In addition to specific trade duties, the post-holder will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the University Estate, working alongside skilled colleagues. Multi-trade experience would be highly advantageous.

About the Role

We are looking for a passionate and driven Research Fellow to contribute to exciting NHMRC MRFF targeted funding projects aimed at improving diagnosis pathways and treatment management for sleep apnoea.

In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with our Chief Investigators, helping to drive research projects forward and boost productivity. You’ll engage in project preparation, navigate ethics, and support clinical trials while ensuring timely milestone reporting and impactful publication outputs.

Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to lead and mentor students involved in the research, fostering their development while adhering to the University’s policies and standards.

About You

To be successful in this role you will exhibit:


	Completion of a PhD in physiology, psychology, bio-medical engineering or other sleep health related field

	Research experience in terms of publications and presentations at a national and/or international level in a relevant field
	Experience to critically review the literature in relevant fields and in qualitative research methodology
	Demonstrated experience of conducting research in a sleep laboratory setting
	Clear understanding of and commitment to social accountability as it applies to research in this discipline.

FHMRI Sleep Health conducts world-leading transdisciplinary research to advance knowledge of sleep, sleep disorders and develop new treatments to improve sleep and is situated within the College of Medicine and Public Health.
