Basic information and contact details for Delhi Technological University

institution

Delhi Technological University was Delhi’s first engineering college when it was set up as Delhi Polytechnic in 1941. It has since undergone considerable change in the last decade.

It was given university status in 2009 which ended 57 years of affiliation to the University of Delhi, the last 44 as Delhi College of Engineering.

In 2017, the main Bawana Road campus, a 164-acre facility operated since 1995 was joined by the new Vivek Eihar campus in East Delhi housing the School of Management (USME). In the following year the university was allotted $40m by Delhi’s city government for two new academic blocks and student accommodation.

In 2019 DTU was ranked 71st overall, 47th among universities and 34th for engineering in the National Institutional Ratings Framework. With the vision "to be a world class university through education, innovation and research for the service of humanity" it aims by 2030 to have 20,000 students – not far off doubling 2019’s roll of 11,019 – doubling the proportion of women from 15 to 30 per cent and also including 30 per cent postgraduates. It also aims to have raised the number of start-up companies in its Technical Business Incubator from 19 to 100.

New areas such as architecture, fashion technology, medical engineering and social work will be added to existing areas of speciality such as biotechnology, design, chemistry, physics, maths, management and several branches of engineering. New courses in 2019 included master's in physics, maths and biotechnology, while USME will offer a specialised "Family Business" MBA from 2020.
