The University of Helsinki Faculty of Law invites applications for a permanent university lectureship at its Helsinki unit from 1 January 2027 or as agreed. The position extensively encompasses two of the Faculty’s thematic entities, Crime, Procedure, Administration and Environment (criminal law, procedural law, administrative procedure law and environmental law); and Economy, Society and Law (laws regarding companies, securities markets, accounting and taxes), and the appointee must be able to teach in at least one of them.

The appointee’s duties include the provision of undergraduate instruction in their teaching fields as well as the supervision of theses in the Bachelor’s Programme in Law and in one or more of the Faculty’s master’s programmes. The teaching duties also include teaching under the Open University brand. The appointee’s duties include conducting their own research, in addition to which they are expected to apply for research funding and potentially lead a research group of their own. While the position is located in Helsinki, it may include teaching duties at the Faculty’s Vaasa Unit of Legal Studies.

The appointee’s immediate work community will consist of the staff of the thematic entities of the Bachelor’s Programme in Law, the Master’s Programme in Law, or the Faculty’s international degree programme, or a combination of these. The appointee will contribute to the planning of teaching and degree programme operations, and may also receive administrative responsibilities in the organisation of teaching or University community activities.

The position is subject to the provisions on annual workload of the collective agreement of Finnish universities. Typically, teaching and related administrative duties consume between 40% and 70% of the working hours of university lecturers.

In addition to applicant qualifications, particular attention in filling the position will be paid to the comprehensive scope of the appointee’s teaching skills with regard to the disciplines concerned.

Requirements for the position and assessment of qualifications

According to the University of Helsinki Regulations, university lecturers must hold an applicable doctoral degree and be capable of providing high-quality, research-based teaching and supervising theses.

Pursuant to the Government Decree on Universities (770/2009), appointees to teaching and research positions at the University must be proficient in the language in which they provide instruction, in other words, Finnish or Swedish. While the teaching language is Finnish, to successfully attend to the duties of this position the appointee must also have good English skills. Applicants not proficient in Finnish or Swedish must attain sufficient proficiency in one of the languages within a reasonable period.

The assessment of applicant merits considers both scholarly and teaching qualifications. Scholarly qualifications include scholarly publications and other research outputs of scholarly value. When assessing teaching qualifications, attention will be paid to teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce learning materials, other teaching merits and, if necessary, a teaching demonstration. In filling the positions, particular emphasis will be placed on the ability to provide teaching in multiple disciplines, diverse teaching experience and qualifications in the development of teaching.

What we offer

The salary will be based on levels (5–) 6–7 of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The appointee’s gross monthly salary will range approximately from €4,300 to €4,800, depending on their merits and experience. The position will include a six-month trial period.

This specialist role is responsible for the design, documentation and lifecycle planning of audiovisual solutions across teaching and meeting spaces, from totem installations and small meeting rooms to large lecture theatres and specialist learning environments. Working alongside the AV Technical Manager, you will help ensure AV systems are supportable, scalable, standardised and aligned with institutional requirements, improving the reliability, usability and consistency of technology-enabled teaching, learning and collaboration spaces.

Role & responsibilities

The AV Solutions Specialist works collaboratively with the AV Technical Manager, AV support colleagues, IT Services teams, Estates and project colleagues, University stakeholders and external suppliers to deliver practical, customer-focused AV solutions.

The post holder will lead and contribute to AV design and documentation activity, translating stakeholder requirements into robust solutions within agreed standards and constraints. The role will also support procurement, supplier engagement, installation planning, commissioning, acceptance testing, service transition and lifecycle planning.

Responsibilities include:


	Design and document AV solutions for teaching, learning and meeting spaces, including totem setups, small teaching rooms, medium and large teaching rooms, lecture theatres and specialist environments.
	Work with the AV Technical Manager to develop, apply and maintain AV standards, reference designs and supported technology patterns that promote consistency, scalability and serviceability.
	Produce and maintain technical documentation, including room specifications, schematics, signal-flow information, bills of materials, network and power requirements, control and interface requirements, support notes and handover packs.
	Gather and analyse requirements from academic, professional service and project stakeholders, translating teaching, collaboration and operational needs into practical AV designs within agreed standards and constraints.
	Support procurement, supplier engagement, installation planning, commissioning and acceptance testing, ensuring installations meet quality, health and safety, information security and accessibility expectations.
	Maintain lifecycle and asset information for AV systems, identifying obsolescence, risks, refresh priorities and opportunities to rationalise or standardise components across the estate.
	Provide specialist technical advice to AV support colleagues and project teams, supporting problem resolution, service transition, training and knowledge transfer for new or changed spaces, and contributing to continuous improvement of AV designs, standards and processes.


About you

We are looking for an experienced AV professional with a strong understanding of audiovisual systems design, documentation and technology standards. You should be confident translating the needs of academic and professional service users into practical, reliable and accessible AV solutions.

We are looking to recruit two Senior Research Associates at the University of Surrey for a new project on formal verification, seL4 security and AI-assisted theorem proving, funded by the Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA): https://agentic-sel4.github.io/

The project, joint with Andrei Popescu at the University of Sheffield and Toby Murray at the University of Melbourne, has two closely connected aims. First, we will develop a formally verified reference monitor on top of seL4 for the secure containment of AI agents, including mechanisms for dynamically controlling agents’ capabilities and information flows. Second, we will investigate the use of modern AI techniques to accelerate large-scale formal verification, including AI proof agents for maintaining, extending and refactoring the seL4 Isabelle/HOL proof base.

The Surrey positions are full-time fixed-term until November 2027. We have substantial funding for access to state-of-the-art AI models and computing infrastructure.

About you

We are interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of interactive theorem proving, formal verification, information-flow security, seL4, neurosymbolic AI, and AI-assisted reasoning. Candidates do not need to cover all these areas: the researchers can focus on different parts of the project according to their expertise.

Particular preference will be given to candidates with strong Isabelle/HOL expertise (or substantial experience with related interactive theorem provers), and to candidates who are available to start as soon as possible. We would also be very interested in hearing from excellent Isabelle researchers who may be at an earlier career stage than would normally be expected for a Senior Researcher position.

This position is open for a PhD candidate (starting or ongoing) under the supervision of Mgr. Markéta Pernisová, Ph.D., as part of the TowArds Next GENeration Crops (TANGENC) project, which focuses on novel breeding techniques for crop improvement. The research will primarily investigate the hormonal regulation of plant in vitro regeneration and shoot development. Additionally, the researcher will participate in the development of molecular tools and protocols for genome editing, transformation, and plant regeneration.

Developing and improving plant genetic engineering resources - such as transgenics and genome editing - requires the collaborative efforts of multiple groups with complementary expertise. Our team members have extensive experience managing research projects and teams, maintaining international collaborations, and publishing in high-impact scientific journals.
