Description We are inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate in the Division of Social Science at NYU Abu Dhabi from individuals who have or will soon receive a PhD in demography, epidemiology, public health, or a related discipline in the social sciences. The appointment will begin September 1, 2026, subject to final budget approval and is available for up to three years. The post-doctoral associate will spend half their time on independent research, and half their time on collaborative research with Professor Stéphane Helleringer. The collaborative research will be on population health and its determinants in low-and-middle-income countries, with an emphasis on measurement issues and the impact of crises such as epidemics and disasters. The job entails conducting high-quality research on population health and its determinants in low-and-middle-income countries. This includes conceptualizing research questions, designing empirical studies, collecting or acquiring new data sets, and analyzing these data using advanced statistical models and visualization techniques. The job also emphasizes the dissemination of knowledge about population health, particularly through the preparation of peer-reviewed manuscripts, software packages and/or participation in international conferences. Candidates must hold a PhD in demography, epidemiology, public health or related discipline in the social sciences. The ideal candidate is preferred to have prior experience with data collection and collaboration in low-and-middle-income countries and good knowledge of R or other software for data management, analysis and visualization. The position does not require teaching, but it may be possible to get teaching experience for compensation. You would join a group of over 20 post-doctoral fellows and 70 faculty in the Division of Social Science. Job Purpose The Research Fellow / Research Engineer (with focus on MedTech / HealthTech Engineering) will support applied research and innovation in community and allied health by translating clinical and operational needs into engineering requirements, prototypes, technical evaluations, deployment support and evidence reports. The role focuses on hands-on medtech / healthtech engineering, project coordination and implementation support for healthcare projects. This role is focused on MedTech / HealthTech Engineering. The candidate should have good project-management discipline and experience coordinating engineering, prototyping, testing or implementation workstreams with clear outcomes delivered. The Research Fellow / Research Engineer will support academic staff and project leads, and contribute his/her assigned share to team-level KPI targets through practical engineering and deployment outputs. Key Responsibilities Applied Research & Development Translate clinical needs assessment and workflow analysis into engineering requirements for organisational innovation transition, focusing on but not limited to community and aged care settings, nursing homes, hospitals, home-based care and palliative care settings. Your personal sphere of play The Political Communication Research Group (polcom.univie.ac.at) at the Department of Communication, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Vienna, studies the interaction between political elites, media, and citizens. Current research is focused on understanding how and under which conditions political elites communicate with citizens, what role media organizations and journalists play in the political communication process, how citizens process elite and journalistic communication, and what role digital technologies play in this process. Scholars in the group use a variety of qualitative and quantitative social research methods to develop and test theories that help understand the quality of political communication in democracies today. To extend the group’s research profile, we are looking for a motivated postdoc with a focus on political communication. The position is to be filled whilst a member of staff is absent. The postdoc will work closely with Univ.-Prof. Sophie Lecheler and other scholars in the group. Our research staff have the opportunity to develop industry-relevant applied research capabilities while contributing to impactful projects that address real-world operational needs. We are seeking a Research Engineer to join an applied research project focused on the development of an embodied AI robotic system for urban infrastructure inspection and maintenance. The project involves the design, integration, and validation of robotic mechanisms, sensing systems, and automated workflows for outdoor infrastructure maintenance applications.The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary research team and industry partners to investigate, prototype, test, and implement practical robotic solutions that can operate in real-world environments and support more efficient, safe, and scalable infrastructure maintenance. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and integrate customised mechanical mechanisms for robotic systems, including robotic end-effectors, grippers, tool-changing interfaces, material handling systems, and task-specific automation modules. Develop 3D CAD models, fabrication drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and technical documentation using SolidWorks. Perform mechanical design analysis and engineering calculations, including load estimation, actuator sizing, structural integrity, tolerance analysis, and vibration/shock mitigation. Ensure mechanical designs are compatible with robotic arms, mobile platforms, sensors, and mechatronic systems, considering payload, reachability, safety, manufacturability, and maintainability. Build, assemble, and commission mechanical prototypes and experimental robotic systems. Source and evaluate commercial components, and work with vendors, fabricators, and contractors to support fabrication and assembly. Support field deployments and technology demonstrations with industry partners. Prepare technical reports, design documentation, test reports, risk assessments, and project deliverables. To liaise and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisor. Requirements Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related discipline. Strong hands-on experience in mechanical design, prototyping, fabrication, and system integration. Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modelling, assembly design, and engineering documentation. Good understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering analysis.
