Founded in 1949 as the School of Engineering in Częstochowa, Częstochowa University of Technology (CUT) began with a single faculty of mechanical engineering and 160 students. It expanded to three faculties within its first years, offering programmes in mechanical engineering, textiles, and metallurgy, before becoming Częstochowa University of Technology in 1955.
The faculty of electrical engineering was established in 1966, while the university gained the right to award doctoral degrees in technical sciences during the following decades. Today, CUT is the largest state technical university in the Częstochowa region.
The university is located in Częstochowa in southern Poland.
CUT currently comprises seven faculties: the faculty of mechanical engineering, faculty of computer science and artificial intelligence, faculty of production engineering and materials technology, faculty of electrical engineering, faculty of civil engineering, faculty of infrastructure and environment, and the faculty of management. Each faculty offers a range of programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD level including biotechnology, civil engineering with BIM, computer modelling in mechanics, materials design and logistics, management, mechanical engineering (modelling and simulation), artificial intelligence and robotics, logistics, quality and production management, and artificial intelligence and data science.
International education has also formed an important part of CUT's activity since the establishment of its International Cooperation Centre in 2005, which created the European Faculty of Engineering for English-language study and coordinates the Erasmus+ scheme.
