Teaching

Research 
Curtin continues to strengthen its research impact, while balancing science and technology research to address industry and societal issues, and research to extend human knowledge. 
The University is involved with more than 70 research centres, including the high-profile Space Science and Technology Centre, the Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy, the Centre for Crop and Disease Management, the Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre and the national Cooperative Research Centre for Future Battery Industries. Other major international collaborations include projects in liver cancer research and hydrogen storage materials, and Curtin leads the Australian Government’s first ‘Trailblazer’ program in resources technology and critical minerals. 
Nationally, in the most recent national research assessment, Excellence in Research for Australia, Curtin performed strongly, with 95% of its research areas assessed ‘at or above world-class level’. 
The University has dedicated support for translating research outcomes into commercialisation and start-up initiatives. Recent successes include an electrolyser process to produce green hydrogen from untreated water and a device that saves children with chronic ear infections from surgery. The commercialisation team also provides dedicated workshops for both students and staff to develop their entrepreneurial ideas. Complementing those initiatives, Curtin recently launched its Bachelor of Innovation degree, designed for students who aspire to develop novel businesses and products or services. 
Campus life 
Curtin Perth is a spacious and attractive campus with more than 100 hectares of landscaped gardens close to the scenic Canning River. The campus hosts a vibrant, culturally diverse community, and offers numerous sport and recreation groups, social clubs and campus events. 
The University’s latest campus development is Curtin Exchange – a modern precinct that includes student accommodation and a hotel, a transport hub, retail outlets, and high-tech learning and exhibition spaces.

About the Role:

The School of Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPS) at Curtin University is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable academic with proven research and teaching skills in Space and Planetary Science. This position will conduct independent research as part of the Space Science and Technology Centre (SSTC) and develop high-quality teaching programs in the new Bachelor of Science major in Space and Planetary Sciences. This role includes teaching and supervising research projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Your responsibilities will include:


	Undertake world-class research, resulting in research student completions, publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and successful grant applications.
	Collaborate with colleagues within the SSTC to help build a vibrant and sustainable research team.
	Actively contribute to the organisation, planning, delivery and evaluation of teaching in our new Space & Planetary Science major.
	Demonstrate best practices and innovative teaching methods that enhance the student experience.
	Actively engage with the Planetary Science Discipline to promote a positive and inclusive work environment.
	Apply relevant health and safety standards, including the required responsibilities of Supervisors for practical classes and research students.
	Promote the Planetary Science Discipline within and outside the University community by engaging in service and leadership roles, as well as outreach activities.
	In all interactions with staff and students, demonstrate the University values of integrity, respect, courage, excellence and impact.


Who we're looking for - Selection Criteria:

Essential Criteria:


	PhD in Space and/or Planetary Sciences or a related discipline, and post-doctoral research and/or university or relevant industry experience.
	Demonstrable track record of research funding success and high-quality publications, relative to opportunity.
	Demonstrated ability / experience / capacity to undertake a unit coordination role (ALB).
	Demonstrable evidence of high-quality teaching coordination and a reflective approach to teaching delivery (ALC).
	Demonstrated ability or potential to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects (ALB).
	Demonstrable record of graduate research supervision and conferral of Higher Degree by Research Students (ALC).
	Demonstrated high-level communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage students and staff respectfully across cultures and collaborate collegially.
	Demonstrated commitment to integrity, health and safety, equity and inclusivity.


Role Requirements:


	As this is a continuing position, you will require permanent work rights. We will also consider international candidates who are eligible for a relevant visa. Visa sponsorship and relocation support may be considered.
