Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology

Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology (CFCST) has a history that dates back to 1967, when it was established as the Children’s Educational Foundation Village (CEFV) in the Arakan Valley in Arakan, Cotabato, Philippines.
CEFV was founded with a mission to provide education and custodial care for disadvantaged, orphaned, and marginalised children in the region. Its founder, Bai Hadja Fatima Matabay Plang, otherwise known as Mother Bai, remains a much-loved and respected figure within the CFCST and wider Mindanao community. In 1983, it formally became the higher education institution it is today.
The institution offers a wide range of both undergraduate and selected graduate programmes across teacher education, agriculture, and applied sciences. These include Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Secondary Education (with majors in Filipino, Mathematics, Science, Technology and Livelihood Education), and Bachelor of Physical Education. 
In agriculture and allied fields, it offers Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness, Bachelor of Science in Forestry, and Bachelor of Science in Food Technology. It also provides programmes in social development and applied sciences, including Bachelor of Science in Social Work, Community Development, Information Technology, and Computer Science, alongside selected graduate programmes in education and doctoral-level studies in education-related fields.
A distinctive feature of the institution is its Custodial Care Program. CFCST is the only state college in the country that operates an orphanage, originating from its founding mission and continuing to provide shelter, care, and educational support for disadvantaged youth.

We are seeking an excellent academic to join our staff as an Assistant Professor / Lecturer in Computer Science. The appointed candidate will have a proven record of teaching, research and publication, appropriate to career stage. They will be expected to make a strong contribution to the teaching programme of the Department and undertake teaching duties on the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as the supervision of Master’s and PhD students.

The appointee will be a full faculty member, and as such will be expected to innovate in both research and teaching, to assist in the administration and mission of the Department, and to contribute to the wider research community. The appointed candidate will have a strong commitment to research-led undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a demonstrated capacity/potential to attract research funding and develop a world-class research programme.

The appointee will be expected to build a strong research profile, that will enhance the research strengths in the Department, and which supports the University’s research strategy including affiliating to the Research Institutes, where appropriate and working with colleagues on national and international research. The appointee will be expected to sustain and conduct research, engage in scholarship of quality and substance and generate publications of international standard.

Salary:

Assistant Professor / Lecturer: €66,055 – €104,600 p.a. (7 points)

Assistant Lecturer: €43,025 - €73,445 (14 points)

Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.

Work that matters

A Postdoctoral Researcher – Soft Glass and Fibre Development position is available within the Australian Research Council (ARC) funded research program “Breaking through the manufacturing ‘glass ceiling’ for ZBLAN glass fibres”. The aim of this broader program is to develop fluoride glass fibres with significantly improved optical quality, enabling long-distance light transmission, emerging mid-infrared lasers and light sources, with potential use across industries including defence, mining, medical devices, and data communications.

You will undertake high-quality research as part of a collaborative team, while progressively developing your capacity to work independently. You will contribute to the design and delivery of research activities, including experimental design, advanced laboratory techniques and the operation of specialised equipment, to support the successful achievement of project objectives. The role includes analysing and communicating research findings through publications and conference presentations, contributing to research-related teaching activities where appropriate, maintaining accurate research records, and supporting postgraduate students within your area of expertise. You will also participate in research administration, professional development, and collaborative activities across the research group, University and broader research community.

The team

The successful candidate will work as part of the Photonic Materials & Optical Fibres research group at the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS) through the School of Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences (PCES) to make significant contributions to the:


	Development of novel and advanced tellurite and fluoride glass compositions
	Development of novel and advanced methods of tellurite and fluoride glass fabrication and processing
	Characterisation of fabricated glass, preforms and fibres to monitor the composition and fabrication development
	Close collaboration with the broader team working on the ZBLAN optical fibres research program.

Experience

	PhD or equivalent degree (or thesis submitted) in materials science, physics, chemistry or related discipline.
	Laboratory experience in tellurite and fluoride glass fabrication and processing, including melting, casting, extrusion, drawing, with the ability to rapidly learn new techniques.
	Laboratory experience in optical glass and fibre characterization, particularly in spectroscopy, microscopy, and fibre loss measurements, with the ability to rapidly learn new techniques.
	Demonstrated research excellence in tellurite and fluoride glass and fibre development.
	Demonstrated publication track record in leading scientific journals and conferences.
	Outstanding problem-solving skills with the ability to perform independent research and creatively tackle experimental challenges.
	Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise and communicate effectively with professional and industry bodies, government and members of the community.
	Excellent organisational and time management skills along with meticulous research record-keeping and timely completion of project milestones


Desirable:


	PhD in relevant area.
	Laboratory experience in preform preparation and fibre drawing for tellurite and ZBLAN glass.
	Experience in research on understanding the effect of gravity on glass flow behaviour.
	Ability to co-supervise Higher Degree by Research students.

The post will support LJMU’s strategic aim to deliver applied research, consultancy, and collaborative projects that inform real-world development, manufacturing and scale-up decisions, with the production of white paper/s,

The role is for 12 months and will focus on understanding and mitigating aggregation and particle formation in biologics, with research themes including:


	How formulation variables (excipients, surfactants, buffers, lipids) drive instability and particle risk
	Where instability is introduced during manufacturing and scale up (mixing, filtration, chromatography, fill finish, storage)
	Developing integrated, risk based frameworks to predict and reduce particle formation across development and manufacture
