Renamed in 1991 in honour of India’s seventh Prime Minister, Chaudhary Charan Singh, CCS Haryana Agricultural University had its roots in national politics and the creation of the new state of Haryana in 1966. Among the consequences was a division of the recently-established Punjab University of Agriculture, its main campus within the borders of Haryana, uniting with faculties of basic, animal and veterinary science to create Haryana Agricultural University in 1970. It retains the 3,000 hectare campus – much of it farmland – that it inherited in the city of Hisar, but in 2015 added another college at Biwal and maintains a network of agricultural science, knowledge and regional research centres across the state. Schools of Home Science (1973) and Agricultural Engineering and Technology (1987) have been added on the main campus. A survey in 2016 found that it ranked 4th in publications and 6th for citations among India’s agricultural universities over the previous 15 years, while the same year saw it was awarded the prestigious Sardar Patel prize by the Indian Council for Agricultural Research. Flagship enterprises include the Saina Nehwal Institute for Agricultural Technology, Training and Education, named after India’s formerly no 1 world-ranked badminton player, whose father teaches at the university. It provides outreach programmes in home sciences, horticulture and plant protection. The school of home science aims to "empower women at personal, professional, social, entrepreneurial and economic fronts through teaching, research and extension". Courses offered include cutting and tailoring, soft toy making and varieties of fabric design. An Agricultural Business Incubation Centre was created in 2018.

The role Postdoctoral position in computational phonology on "Rational Evolutionary Phonology" Prof Erich Round is seeking qualified applicants for a fully-funded two-year postdoctoral project on “REVOLUPHON: Rational Evolutionary Phonology". This postdoctoral project contributes to the core formal-theoretic and cognitive modelling components in the ERC-selected, UKRI-funded project "Rational Evolutionary Phonology", led by Erich Round in 2024–2029. The position is based at the Surrey Morphology Group at the University of Surrey and provides the opportunity to work in the vibrant and highly collegial research environment for which SMG is renowned. Background REVOLUPHON is an ambitious project in computational cognitive science, cultural evolution and phonological theory, which seeks deeper explanations for human phonology. Though phonological theories are diverse, they contain recurrent axioms and atoms: segments, features, prosodic units, et cetera. We hypothesise that these units of representation are explicable in terms of the interaction of phonetics with resource limitations on human cognition (resource rationality). Separately, recent decades show that phonologies can be reasonably well modelled as optimisation problems, with optimisation imputed to the mind. We hypothesise that apparent optimisation, and its exceptions, arise because phonologies undergo cultural evolution, an optimising process. REVOLUPHON tests these hypotheses through computational modelling of cognition and cultural evolution, to develop new foundations for phonological theory. Responsibilities The candidate will be a core member of a research team focused on achieving the REVOLUPHON project aims and will participate in the broader activities both of the REVOLUPHON group and of the Surrey Morphology Group (SMG). The candidate will have opportunities at SMG to develop their research leadership profile while interacting with world-class researchers. Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT. Cloud & DevOps Technologies: Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD Pipelines, and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP. Passion for supporting research and academic projects, with a track record of developing software solutions to address technical challenges. Extensive industry experience and knowledge to provide valuable industry perspectives in an academic setting. Schemes of Service: Research Division: Engineering Employment Type: Fixed Term As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.  The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on a research project where you will be part of the research team to develop a high-resolution ambient temperature model that accurately translates Land Surface Temperature (LST) maps from satellite imagery into actual ambient temperature readings with minimal error margins. This will enable urban designer to effectively evaluate the impact of Urban Heat Island (UHI) mitigation measures and validate simulation results from microclimate models. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake these responsibilities in the project: Weather station deployment and other urban microclimate sensors in selected locations to gather real-time ambient data Data collection, analyse the ambient temperature data, and correlating pixel-based surface temperature data with ground-based measurements to support model validation Technical data integration of 3D building data such BIM model and geospatial data such as hard surface, greenery in Geographical Information System (GIS) such as QGIS open platform. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Job Requirements Have relevant competence in the areas of sustainable built environment, including in neighbourhood and building-scale modelling. Have a degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering or Sustainable Built Environment or Building Science. Possessing a Master’s or PhD degree will be advantageous. Knowledge of Geographical Information System (GIS) database processing and analysis will be advantageous Key Competencies Able to develop 3D model at neighbourhood and building-scale Have analytical skills to understand the correlation between different climate data with geospatial data. Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university.
