About Charles University

Charles University (CU) in Prague, founded in 1348, is the oldest and largest university in the Czech Republic. It was the first university to be established in Central Europe and takes its name from its founder, King Charles IV, King of Bohemia and King of the Romans.

The university was modelled on the first European universities, Bologna and Paris in particular, and its original faculties were in theology, liberal arts, law, and medicine. 

Today, CU is a modern, multi-disciplinary and research-oriented institution that is home to more than 50,000 students undertaking bachelor, master’s and doctoral programmes,

The university comprises 17 faculties in total, including ones dedicated to Catholic Theology, Protestant Theology, Hussite Theology, as well as Law, Arts, Pharmacy, Science, Mathematics and Physics, Education, Social Sciences, Physical Education and Sport, Humanities, and five separate Medicine Faculties.

Additionally, the CU estate houses three institutes, five service facilities and six other units, all supported by a staff totalling in excess of 8,000.

Most of the university campus is spread throughout Prague, with two other centres located in the nearby cities of Hradec Králové and Pilsen.

At the centre of the university is an historic building known as the Carolinum. Found within Prague’s old town, it is the seat of the rector and the university’s Academic Senate, and is one of the oldest dormitories within Central Europe to still remain.

The university is also home to botanical gardens and boasts international links with higher education institutions such as Imperial College London, The University of Washington, Lomonosov Moscow State University, and the University of Amsterdam, publishing joint publications with each.

You will also engage in professional, community, and iwi service relevant to your discipline. While many core responsibilities are consistent across Lecturer to Professor levels, progression in the role is marked by the delivery of teaching at an increasingly high standard, greater impact and leadership in research, and a growing contribution to academic governance. This includes advancing your discipline through recognised scholarship, fostering student success, and providing leadership within the University and the wider academic community. Salary will be in the range of $92,603 to $110,407 for a Lecturer or $113,248 to $148,799 for a Senior Lecturer, per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. You will have, or be completing, a PhD in psychology or a related discipline and bring strong foundational knowledge and training in behaviour analysis, with expertise (or a developing research profile appropriate to the level of appointment) in one or more priority areas for the School such as Environmental Psychology, Applied Animal Behaviour, Third Wave Behaviour Analysis (e.g. nonlinear analysis, RFT), or Organisational Behaviour Management. As a Senior Lecturer you will have a well-established research profile, evidenced by a strong record of publications, external funding success, and the supervision of high-quality research students. An engaging and adaptable educator, you will demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching and postgraduate supervision, alongside a commitment to innovative teaching practices, including online and distance delivery. Transformational Coaching for Employment: Identity Formation Among Indian Youth Join an exciting Leverhulme Trust–funded research project at the University of Southampton exploring how coaching for elite employment shapes the identities, aspirations, and social mobility of young people in India. Situated within the sociology of education, this innovative project focuses on coaching for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations—one of the most competitive routes into prestigious public sector careers in India. Drawing on a novel conceptual framework of ‘coached habitus’, the research examines how non-formal education influences youth transitions, identity formation, and the education–employment nexus in contexts of inequality. Adopting a multi-method qualitative design, the study combines ethnographic and visual methods, biographical interviews, and policy analysis. The project aims to generate internationally significant research outputs alongside meaningful policy and public engagement. About the role The Research Fellow will play a central role in delivering this ambitious project. You will take a leading role in qualitative fieldwork and data collection in Delhi, including ethnographic observations, interviews, and visual documentation, and contribute across all stages of research, from design to dissemination. You will work closely with Dr Achala Gupta and will be supported to develop an internationally competitive research profile. The role offers opportunities to co-author publications, lead elements of project outputs, present at major international conferences, and engage with policy stakeholders.
