Description The Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi is inviting applicants for a Junior Research Scientist in the area of experimental astro-particle physics and applications. The applicant will work in the domain of particle and radiation detectors (organic and inorganic scintillators, photomultipliers and silicon photomultipliers, silicon drift detectors, etc.) applied to various domains: direct dark matter search with dielectric haloscopes, gamma ray spectroscopy, and space-based applications. The applicant may be involved in several projects, including the development and simulation of detectors for Lunar X-ray spectroscopy, in the framework of an extremely dynamic and stimulating research group. It is expected that the applicant will also contribute to the general management of the laboratory and its equipment. Previous members of this group are now pursuing research and academic careers internationally. Applicants must have a Bachelors in Physics. Knowledge and experience in the design and development of particle detectors, including simulation tools such as GEANT4 is preferred, as well as enthusiasm to learn new techniques and to work and interact within a very diverse environment. Experience and interest in rare-event searches (e.g., axion and dark matter detection) and in applying radiation detection techniques to non-standard domains is preferred. Description The Center for Astrophysics and Space Science (CASS) at NYUAD is looking to appoint new independent fellows working in one (or more) of the following center's research fields Extrasolar Planets Galactic Astrophysics (including compact objects) Extragalactic Astrophysics and Cosmology Astroparticle Physics (Dark Matter searches, gamma-ray spectroscopy, gravitational waves) The center currently consists of eight faculty members and more than 25 researchers and PhD students. The Center possesses the unique possibility to investigate fundamental questions in astrophysics, astroparticle physics, and planetary physics from several points of view, with the expertise of its members ranging from collecting and analyzing state-of-the-art data on the nature of the visible and invisible matter in the Universe, to detailed theoretical and numerical studies from planets to galaxies, and linking them together cohesively. We expect successful applicants to work towards improving the collaborations and connections among the different areas. We invite applicants to visit our website to learn more about current research projects at CASS. The center fellows will have access to a 70,000-core Infiniband Cluster (Jubail) dedicated to the science division, several GPU-based clusters at NYUAD, and other supercomputer facilities through the CASS network. NYUAD also has guaranteed observing time on the Green Bank Telescope, the Very Long Baseline Array, and Las Cumbres Observatory, and is a participant in SDSS-V. Applicants should have a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, physics, or a closely related field. The appointment will be for an initial period of two years with a likely extension to a total of three years. CASS fellows will have dedicated funds for traveling, computing, publications, etc. The preferred starting date is Fall of 2026. NexusSoSci provides the infrastructural and technical foundations for a central service and competence center for social science research. It brings together qualitative and quantitative methodological expertise in data collection, data preparation, and data analysis. The three Senior Scientists and the Coordinator employed in the facility play a key role in developing the digital, material, and spatial infrastructures that support research projects, training, and networking activities. The position will initially be based at the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Social Sciences and then transferred to a subunit following a positive evaluation. We intend to fill the position of Senior Scientist for the ComAI Ethnography Lab from 1st of July 2026 onwards, but at the latest by 1st of September 2026.The position is initially limited to four years. Your personal sphere of play: The ComAI Ethnography Lab within the framework of NexusSoSci is a competence hub and the central service point for the use of multimodal ethnography (e.g. walkthrough, focused and digital ethnography) in qualitative-interpretive social research with and about communicative AI. The Senior Scientist plays a key role by (1) establishing and advancing the emerging field of Communicative AI (ComAI), (2) providing scientific advice on the planning of ethnographically oriented research projects related to AI, and (3) leading training and networking activities. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on applied research projects in partnership with a local SME, contributing to innovative solutions in food and chemical engineering. This is a fixed term contract position. Job Responsibilities  Support research and development activities in waste recycling, pyrolysis reactor, in the area of chemical engineering, thermal systems, and mechanical engineering.  Conduct design and improvement of the existing pyrolysis system, Perform experiments, data analysis, and technical reporting.  Collaborate with academic staff, industry partners, and project stakeholders to achieve project objectives.  Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards in all research activities.  T'o communicate with any relevant stakeholders to ensure project can be completed. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned. Expected qualities:  Serve as the process lead engineer in both design, engineering and testing of Pyrolysis Reactor Systems  Involve in developing the process control narrative  To generate project specifications, design philosophy, PFDs, P&IDs, calculations, operation manuals to comply with clients’ requirement  To carry out process simulations and develop heat and material balances  To carry out hydraulic design for pumps, compressors, blowers and develop respective process datasheets  To check design outputs, datasheets and drawings to ensure accuracy and completeness to design requirements and concepts  Involve in sizing the process instrument, pump and control philosophy  Experience in downstream gas cleaning processes with real experiences operating a plant  Knowledge in tar/PAH removal and separation  Prepare and deliver various engineering related presentations, both internally and externally  Support the R&D Team  Knowledge in skid module base and PLCs programming will be highly preferred  Possess good Solid-works skillset and/or ASPEN HYSYS/3D simulations expertise  Sound knowledge in applying AI into system applications  Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Thermal, Mechanical, Environmental or related disciplines).  Work experience in similar industries. Prior experience in waste recycling, pyrolysis, production of activated carbon, heat transfer, process design, process control would be an advantage.
