About the role

We are a collegiate team which work with a range of Academic and Professional Service colleagues to provide high level administrative support. As a member of our busy and engaged administrative team, you will deliver a thoughtful, pro-active, and efficient service. This role is hybrid and based at the Winchester School of Art on a full-time basis, however part-time and flexible hours may be considered. To be successful in this role you will have:


	Relevant experience and success in similar work in administration
	Up-to-date MS Office skills, including Outlook, Excel, Word, SharePoint
	Ability to independently organise activities and events (plus schedules, diaries, meeting arrangements, etc), whilst prioritising a conflicting workload
	Ability to use own initiative and suggest and implement practical and effective solutions
	Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience in taking meeting minutes
	Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends

University of Southampton

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated postgraduate or postdoctoral Research Assistant in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Sleep, to work within the Surrey Sleep Research Centre at the University of Surrey.

This full-time post is available on a fixed term basis for 12 months. The Research Assistant will work under the supervision of Dr Ullrich Bartsch and in collaboration with the Prof Paul Gringras at the Evelina Children’s Hospital and King’s College London.

The role

You will be part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers with the main aim to develop the next generation of AI models to predict severe sleep disorders, such as narcolepsy, from signals collected using wearable devices including electroencephalography (EEG).

This will require expertise in time series analysis and feature engineering using multimodal timeseries, with a focus on EEG signals. Additionally experience in using different deep learning architecture for time series classification would be beneficial.

A second goal of the project is to develop the concept of a frontend for the dissemination of model generated predictions to clinical teams. Experience in frontend development and inclusion of user feedback into deep learning architectures using reinforcement learning or a or related technologies would be advantageous

You will be part of a vibrant research environment within the Surrey Sleep Research Centre at the University of Surrey – and included in the University-wide Institute for People-Centred Artificial Intelligence (PAI). Your work will involve leading, devising, coordinating, and supervising research projects, including the work involved in the collaborations with project partners, guidance to researchers and students, and applying for further funding to extend the research.

About you

You should hold a relevant postgraduate degree (Master’s) and/or hold a PhD/DPhil or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil - with experience in the field of computer science, maths, biomedical engineering, or other fields relevant to the proposed area of research. Proven programming experience in Python, MATLAB or C/C++ is essential. Expertise in the analysis of time series data such as the Electroencephalogram (EEG) and/or analysis of data recorded by wearable devices would be highly advantageous.

Description

The Robot Learning & Control laboratory in the Division of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a postdoctoral associate with a strong expertise in learning-based control for robotics, with a particular focus on ensuring passivity and stability during interactions with humans and/or the environment. This position aims to advance the development of control algorithms that maintain safety, stability, and robustness in robotic systems, while leveraging machine learning alongside differential geometry to enhance adaptability and performance. The research will emphasize the integration of Lyapunov stability, passivity-based control, variable impedance control, and imitation or exploration-based learning, particularly in scenarios involving human interaction and environmental complexities.

The successful applicant will engage in cutting-edge research with the following objectives:

Integration of Machine Learning and Differential Geometry: Develop and refine control algorithms that combine machine learning techniques with differential geometric methods to enhance the adaptability and efficiency of robotic systems in dynamic and unpredictable environments.

Passivity and Stability in Human-Environment Interaction: Focus on creating control strategies that ensure stability, which is crucial for safe and stable operations during human-robot interactions and in complex environmental settings.

Variable Impedance Control: Implement variable impedance control strategies to allow robots to dynamically adjust their stiffness and damping properties, improving interaction safety and efficiency in scenarios that require close human-robot collaboration or precise environmental manipulation.

Imitation and Exploration-Based Learning: Proficiency in applying imitation learning and/or exploration-based learning to optimize control policies, enabling robots to learn from human demonstrations and environmental interactions.

Qualifications:


	Applicants must have a PhD in Robotics, Control Theory, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a     closely related field, with a strong focus on robot control, machine learning, and differential geometry.
	Demonstrated experience in developing advanced control and learning algorithms, particularly in the context of human-robot interaction, in addition to an experience in working with real robotic manipulator.
	A strong publication record in high-impact journals and conferences (e.g., T-RO, IJRR, RA-L, RAS, IROS, ICRA, CDC, etc.), showcasing your expertise.
	Proficiency in programming languages and tools commonly used in robotics, such as C , MATLAB, Python, and ROS.
	Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary research environment.

The role

The School of Geography & Environmental Science is seeking to appoint up to two Lecturers in Climate and Environmental Change (permanent Level 5 or 6 and 4-year fixed term Level 5).

These appointments will strengthen and complement the school’s existing research, teaching, and impact activities within the interdisciplinary context of landscape dynamics, ecology, environmental change and sustainability. The posts will complement existing School strengths through the addition of research focused around innovative approaches to atmospheric, climate or earth system modelling, palaeoclimate reconstruction, environmental microbial or applied ecology, ecogeomorphology, cryosphere, geohazards, pollution, urban environments, nature-based solutions or sustainable coastal environments.

Teaching activities for this post will be at undergraduate and/or postgraduate-taught (MSc) level, conducted through lectures, tutorials, practical classes, seminars, and/or fieldwork. Teaching responsibilities will involve co-teaching on core programme modules and/or field courses, with scope for developing new, innovative modules in specialist disciplinary areas.

About you

We seek applicants with a PhD (or equivalent professional qualification and/or experience) whose research actively engages disciplinary specialities in Physical Geography and/or Environmental Science. Methodological skills of particular relevance include (but are not limited to) climate, atmospheric or earth system modelling, geospatial analysis of large datasets or molecular analyses.

We especially encourage applicants with either an emerging or established track record of research leadership and a demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary science. Experience with undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching is desirable (Level 5) and essential for Level 6.
