Centro Universitario Integrado

Centro Universitário Integrado (the Integrated University Centre) is a private higher education institution in the southern Brazilian state of Paraná, with four regional distance-learning centres. It traces its beginnings to 1986, and it started offering undergraduate programmes in 1998. In 2017, it became a “university centre” and won authorisation to start distance-learning programmes.
Its main campus is in Campo Mourão, Paraná, about 500km from Curitiba. Centro Universitário Integrado also has a unit in the state of Amapá, the Integrated Faculty of Macapá, which teaches medical degree courses.
Centro Universitário Integrado now offers more than 200 associate’s, bachelor’s, MBA and other postgraduate programmes.
The undergraduate programmes cover the following main areas of study: humanities and social sciences, agricultural and biological sciences, information technology, education, health sciences, engineering and architecture, management, and technology. 
There are postgraduate programmes and MBAs in: humanities, social sciences, health sciences, agricultural and biological sciences, engineering and architecture, IT, law, education, gastronomy, nutrition, and medicine.
Undergraduate and postgraduate students may study in-person, by distance learning or a mix of the two.

The Department of Arts and Design of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites applications for the position of Associate/Assistant Professor in Visual Communication Design. According to the current plan, a Faculty of Design will be established at the new campus, offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees programmes in Visual Communication Design.

Our newly established Visual Communication programme integrates design, technology, research, and is building a world-class team of designers, artists, and interdisciplinary scholars. The programme emphasizes: 1. Cutting-edge practices: motion design, 3D visualization, interactive media, immersive experience design, generative/AI design, and future-driven visual communication strategies; 2. Strong research orientation combined with practical, industry-relevant artistic creation; 3. Interdisciplinary exploration across art, design, technology, humanities, education, and emerging fields; 4. A global vision linking China and the world, and bridging tradition and the future. We are seeking internationally minded faculty with strong portfolios, innovative teaching, and a desire to co-create a forward-looking design school.

Qualifications

1. Doctoral degree in Visual Communication Design or related areas (or equivalent terminal degree with significant professional achievements); 2. A strong portfolio of design practice; 3. Demonstrated teaching experience at graduate or undergraduate level; 4. International exposure through study, work, exhibitions, or industry collaboration; 5. Proficiency in English; 6. Interdisciplinary or cross-cultural scholarship linking design with technology, humanities, or new media; 7. Expertise in one or more future-oriented areas is preferred: (i) Motion graphics and time-based media; (ii) 3D/CG visualization; (iii) XR/VR/AR; (iv) UI/UX and digital product design; (v) AI-assisted design; (vi) Creative coding/computational design; (vii) Data visualization and information systems; (viii) Immersive exhibition and spatial experience design; 8. Candidates with a commitment to building a young, ambitious programme and contributing to long-term strategic growth of the Faculty of Design will be especially valued.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty subject to the mutual agreement of the both parties.

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,052,800 (approximately USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions. Your personal sphere of influence:

As a PhD student (university assistant or prae doc in the Austrian university system), you will work for the ERC project ‘The anthropology of the future: an art world perspective’ (ANTHROFUTURE) led by Prof. Manuela Ciotti (Principal investigator, PI). The project is based at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology.

As part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology not only brings together renowned scientists and students, but also different research areas, a variety of ethnographic methods, a large number of outstanding research projects and appreciative collegial exchange.

ANTHROFUTURE focuses on the art world as an interlocked digital and physical system as an ethnographic site. The project uses innovative multimodal methodologies to generate analytical and theoretical advancements on the future as a time-zone in its comparative and political dimensions across the regional contexts under analysis.

As part of the ANTHROFUTURE team, you will carry out an ethnography of the digital-physical art world infrastructure with a focus on art fairs. In particular, the candidate will conduct research online and in person at Art Basel (Basel, Hong Kong, Qatar) and Art Dubai among others.

The employment duration is 3 years (36 months). Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 3 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a declaration of non-extension. Your future tasks:

You take on tasks in research, teaching and administration to support the project ANTHROFUTURE and will be expected to:


	Finalize your dissertation agreement within 12 months
	Work on your dissertation and its completion within 3 years
	Carry out research in full compliance of ethics, data- and best-practice ERC research guidelines (you will receive support in doing that)
	Develop and deliver high-quality, innovative research outcomes on the topic of the research project
	Participate in conferences of appropriate learned societes and associations
	Produce research publications for leading international and/or peer reviewed journals and book chapters for ANTHROFUTURE
	Produce research dissemination materials for the project´s public facing website and social media
	Assist in exhibition projects (both physical and digital)

How can we perform table-top experiments to obtain new insights into the foundations of quantum physics? Can we measure gravitational effects on entangled photons for shining light onto the interface of quantum physics and gravity? Can we exploit quantum photonics technology for novel quantum machine learning, quantum computing and quantum cybersecurity applications? Can we scale-up multiphoton platforms by using integrated optics, quantum-dot single-photon sources and customized two-dimensional nonlinear materials? The research group “Quantum Information Science and Quantum Computation”, led by Univ.- Prof. Dr. Philip Walther, is part of the Quantum Optics, Quantum Nanophysics & Quantum Information at the Faculty of Physics, and member of the Vienna Center for Quantum Science and Technology (VCQ) – one of the largest quantum hubs in Europe – and the Austrian Cluster of Excellence quanta. The main activities reach from quantum control of single photons using solid-state photon sources, integrated waveguide technology, tailored nonlinear media and detectors based on superconductor technology to interferometric precision measurements of weak gravitational forces.

For our further reinforcement we are looking for a Senior Scientist that supports in particular the research on experimental quantum machine learning. The position is currently limited to 1 year with the possibility of subsequent unlimited employment.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:


	You develop and strength the independent research profile.
	You are involved in research projects/research studies.
	You publish internationally and give presentations.
	You are responsible for project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding.
	You hold courses independently as defined by the collective agreement.
	You (co-)supervise bachelor, master, and PhD students, and you independently propose bachelor, master, and PhD projects to this end.
	You participate in evaluation measures and quality assurance.
	You are involved in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration.


This is part of your personality:


	Doctoral degree/PhD degree in physics or equivalent qualification
	Postdoctoral experience: more than 3 years in experimental quantum photonics and quantum computation
	Profound expertise in integrated quantum photonics, multi-photon processing, for quantum machine learning, and/or quantum neuromorphic computing.
	Research competence and initiative proven through international publications (in renowned, subject-relevant media, peer-reviewed, depending on the professional standards).
	Didactic competence: motivated to teach and communicate knowledge to students
	High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
	Excellent command of written and spoken English
	IT user skills
	Ability to work independently and collaboratively and handle several concurrent, fast-paced projects

B1 lit b basic level (postdoc): EUR 4,932.90 on a full-time basis (before taxes, 14 times per year). The actual salary is finally determined depending on professional experience and qualification.
