Your role and goals The position is in the field of finance. Considering your specific expertise, the position involves teaching finance courses at both the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, supervising theses, and conducting independent research. You will also contribute to course planning and management, curriculum design and teaching development, and administrative tasks. The primary language of instruction is English, so applicants should have a high level of English proficiency. Knowledge of Finnish is not required, but it can be considered an advantage. While the post emphasizes teaching, the lecturer is encouraged to conduct research, with access to seminars, data, and a collegial research environment. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for elderly individuals by creating innovative, nutritious, and visually appealing food products that cater to their specific dietary needs. We are seeking a highly motivated, skilled and experienced Food Product Developer to join our research team under the DIGNIFIED programme. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food science, product development, and research methodologies. This role involves working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to develop new food products, improve existing ones, and ensure they meet the programme’s mission.  Key responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Conduct research and development activities to create innovative food products that align with the DIGNIFIED programme's goals. Mentor and guide junior research engineers in industry projects Develop prototypes and formulations for new/existing food products, ensuring they meet nutritional, sensory, and safety standards. Plan and conduct product scale up trials and shelf-life studies Source and evaluate new ingredients and suppliers Stay updated with the latest advancements in food science and technology and apply this knowledge to the development process. Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and documentation of research findings and product development processes. Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and project planning activities. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field. A Masters/Ph.D. in food science and food technology would be advantageous At least 3-5 years of proven experience in food product development and research, preferably within a similar programme or industry. Strong knowledge of food chemistry, microbiology, and sensory evaluation techniques. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. Strong understanding of ingredient functionality and food processing. Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and software for data analysis. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly. Passion for food product innovation and improving elderly nutrition. Bonus: Culinary skills and experience in product renovation and innovation. The position will be based in the Charles Perkins Centre, a state-of-the-art research facility located on the University of Sydney's Camperdown campus. The NeuroMolecular Discovery Group The lab, led by Dr. Rebecca San Gil, is dedicated to discovering genes and proteins with therapeutic potential to combat neurodegenerative diseases, particularly motor neuron disease and frontotemporal dementia. The role The key responsibilities of the Research Assistant will include: contributing to the design and development of research protocols, ensuring timely execution of research activities assisting with data collection and analysis, ensuring data quality and accuracy coordinating with the team to produce quality reports, verify data accuracy within university systems, and actively engage in compliance initiatives to uphold ethics and biosafety regulations keeping clear and accurate records of experimental methodology and results and assisting with effective and data management using a laboratory notebook or digital research notebook purchasing chemicals, reagents, and consumables as well as ensuring appropriate storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals, reagents, and samples/specimens. Maintenance of lab and university inventories undertaking laboratory research including, bacterial culture and mammalian cell culture and transfection, differentiation and culture of neurons from human iPSC lines, assistance with managing experimental mouse colonies techniques such as immunoblotting, immunocytochemistry, fluorescence microscopy (confocal, and high content), flow cytometry and qPCR. About you Essential bachelor of Science (Honours) with major or minor in cellular and molecular biology or an equivalent combination of relevant research experience and/or education/training expertise in cell culture of immortalised cell lines, culture of iPSC-derived human neurons, transfection of cells/neurons with plasmid DNA, cell lysis and protein extraction and RNA purification experience in immunocytochemistry, fluorescence microscopy (including confocal microscopy), immunoblotting, qPCR, and/or flow cytometry ability to work independently and to multi-task experiments while meeting timelines; self-motivated and independent thinking with enthusiasm to achieve research goals; demonstrated capacity to work effectively both with or without direct supervision and as part of a team excellent communication, record-keeping, and organisational skills ability and willingness to learn new techniques and optimise experimental approaches awareness of laboratory safety, and occupational health and safety protocols, contributes to the safe and efficient operation of research equipment, infrastructure, methodologies and protocols.
