Centro Escolar University was founded in Manila in 1907, as Centro Escolar de Señoritas, which translates roughly as Central School for Young Ladies. it was the first non-sectarian women’s educational institution in the Philippines. 

The university became coeducational in 1945. Its main campus remains in Manila, but it now has an additional five campuses across the Philippines. More than 50 degree programmes are taught through 11 schools. Six of these are healthcare-related: the schools of dentistry, medical technology, medicine, nursing, optometry and pharmacy. 

Student accommodation is off-campus: students can choose between university-affiliated dormitories or flatshares. 

It offers a range of competitive sports, including basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, badminton, swimming and taekwondo.
