Applications are now invited for the following post: Lecturer / Assistant Lecturer Department of Psychology (Post Ref.: 26/31) “Health and Well-being” is the overarching theme for research and teaching at the Department of Psychology (http://www.LN.edu.hk/psy/), with faculty members specializing in positive occupational health psychology, cross-cultural psychology, and experimental social and cognitive psychology. General Requirements Applicants should have a Master’s degree or above in Psychology. Applicants are required to provide evidence of quality teaching. Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential. Teaching experience at tertiary institutions and/or administrative experience will be a distinct advantage. The appointee will teach or as a tutor / teaching assistant, assist course instructors in the teaching of basic and advanced courses for the psychology undergraduate programme as well as other psychology-related courses, such as “Introduction to Psychology”, “Human Development and Psychology of Adulthood”, “Abnormal Psychology”, “Social Psychology”, “Social Problem Solving and Decision Making in the Modern World”, “Self-improvement, Personal and Work Success”, “Religious Behaviour, Belief and Experience” and “Research Methods and Statistics for Psychology II”. Nazarbayev University’s Center for Preparatory Studies (CPS) is currently seeking qualified Teachers for our language courses: EAP or academic skills. CPS operates a Foundation Year Program (NUFYP) which emphasizes academic English, mathematics, and a “Leadership” course to prepare students for Nazarbayev University’s undergraduate schools. The minimum English entry level into NUFYP is an overall IELTS of 5.5; all classes are taught in English. Job Description As a member of the academic teaching team of CPS, a Senior Teaching Fellow is responsible for teaching courses, leading a team of teaching fellows, and overseeing the curricula and assessments of subject courses under the direction of the Head of Discipline and General Director. The STF will report to the relevant Head of Discipline. The STF is employed for 40-hours per week and shall comply with the internal teaching and work schedule instituted by CPS and by the requirements established by the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Qualifications Teaching and Learning support: To uphold NU principles of academic integrity and to provide guidance to colleagues and students on embedding NU Graduate Attributes in curricular and co-curricular activities. Administration and other activities: To take administrative and academic responsibility for a team of teaching fellows—providing mentoring leadership; ensuring their classes are well prepared and delivered as scheduled; seeing that assessments are marked and attendance recorded. To assist the management team in the operations of CPS and to facilitate communications within CPS and their team. To complete academic administration tasks (e.g., attendance data, compiling student progress reports, student surveys). To attend CPS meetings and to participate, as required, in other committee and working groups in CPS, NU Schools, and the University. Your personal sphere of play: The position is based in the Department of Functional & Evolutionary Ecology and will focus on studying coral responses to climate change in space and time. Both, tropical- and cold-water coral reefs are threatened by ocean warming and acidification. In particular, more intense and frequent heatwaves jeopardize tropical reef corals. It is therefore crucial to better understand how different coral species respond to climate change stressors and whether some populations are more resilient to abiotic stress in order to guide global conservation efforts. While much can be learned from studying locally adapted populations of living corals, geochemical analysis of carbonate structures formed by corals in the past can help to disentangle global from local pressures. We would like to establish a new research avenue targeting corals that combines eco-physiological and geochemical approaches, thereby making use of the unique infrastructure and expertise in the department and ideally bridge the Departments of Functional Ecology & Evolution and Palaeontology. For this position, we seek a senior scientist that can combine field and laboratory approaches in coral reef ecology with geochemical analysis of coral carbonates. The successful candidate will study the physiological basis of coral calcification under a range of environmental settings and climate change scenarios. In addition, the successful candidate will conduct comparative work between tropical and cold-water corals to decipher energetics of coral calcification under different modes of energy acquisition and how these affect skeletal geochemical proxies. We are seeking applicants that already have established an internationally visible research portfolio that bridges the fields of marine ecology and marine geochemistry/paleoclimatology, with an emphasis on how skeletal trace elements and isotope proxies reflect coral ecophysiology and can be used as a window into the past. Your working place: The Department of Functional & Evolutionary Ecology is part of the Faculty of Life Science at the University of Vienna. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and lead coral eco-physiological and geochemical research within the department, raise external funding and advise scientists. He/she is encouraged to establish cooperative links with the Department of Palaeontology and take advantage of the rich research environment present at the University of Vienna.  The position is full-time and permanent. Job Responsibilities  Support research and development activities in waste recycling, pyrolysis reactor, in the area of chemical engineering, thermal systems, and mechanical engineering.  Conduct design and improvement of the existing pyrolysis system, Perform experiments, data analysis, and technical reporting.  Collaborate with academic staff, industry partners, and project stakeholders to achieve project objectives.  Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards in all research activities.  T'o communicate with any relevant stakeholders to ensure project can be completed.
