Central South University

Central South University (CSU) is situated in Changsha, a renowned historical and cultural city in Hunan Province, China. Covering an area of 3.17 million square meters, the university straddles both banks of the Xiangjiang River, nestled against the majestic Yuelu Mountain and bordering the vast Xiangjiang River. With its elegant environment and pleasant scenery, it provides an ideal setting for pursuing knowledge and conducting academic research. The university comprises 33 schools. It also oversees three large-scale, Grade A Class 3 comprehensive hospitals—Xiangya Hospital, Xiangya Second Hospital, and Xiangya Third Hospital—which are celebrated under the prestigious name "Southern Xiangya", along with the Xiangya Stomatological Hospital. Additionally, there are six non-directly affiliated hospitals: Xiangya Haikou Hospital, Xiangya Cancer Hospital, Xiangya Children's Hospital, Xiangya Changsha Hospital, Xiangya Zhuzhou Hospital, and Xiangya Changde Hospital.
CSU was established on April 29, 2000, through the merger of three distinguished institutions: Hunan Medical University, Changsha Railway University, and Central South University of Technology. The former Central South University of Technology traced its origins back to the establishment of the Central South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in 1952. The former Changsha Railway University was originally founded as the Central South College of Civil Engineering and Architecture in 1953. The former Hunan Medical University had its roots in the Xiangya Medical College, founded in 1914, making it one of the earliest Western medical schools in China.

Academic Excellence.CSU boasts five academic disciplines selected as national "Double First-Class" construction disciplines: Mathematics, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, and Transportation Engineering. Furthermore, an impressive 20 disciplines have entered the top 1% in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) global rankings: Materials Science, Engineering, Clinical Medicine, Computer Science, Chemistry, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Biology & Biochemistry, Neuroscience & Behavior, Mathematics, Molecular Biology & Genetics, General Social Sciences, Immunology, Psychiatry/Psychology, Geosciences, Environment/Ecology, Agricultural Science, Physics, Microbiology, Economics & Business, and Plant & Animal Science. Among these, Materials Science, Engineering, Clinical Medicine, Computer Science, Chemistry, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Environment/Ecology, Biology & Biochemistry, Molecular Biology & Genetics, and Geosciences rank within the top 1‰ globally. Notably, Materials Science and Engineering rank within the top 1‱ globally.
Actively Promoting Globalization.CSU adheres to an open-door policy, maintaining vibrant international cooperation and exchange. It was among the first batch of universities in China to receive accreditation for international student education quality. The university has established long-term cooperative relationships with 320 universities and research institutions across 65 countries and regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Japan, France, Germany, and Russia. It also engages extensively in industry-university-research collaborations with numerous multinational corporations. CSU has initiated or participated in 16 international university alliances. It has been approved to host 14 State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA) bases for disciplinary innovation and talent introduction, one Sino-foreign cooperative education institution, three cooperative education programs.
