IT Services is the University’s central IT department, providing essential support for teaching, learning and research. We are now looking for a customer-focused and enthusiastic professional to join our IT Helpdesk team as an IT Customer Service Desk Officer. In this role, you will be part of a dynamic frontline service supporting students and staff across the University with a wide range of IT-related queries. You will need excellent customer service skills, a personable and professional approach, and the ability to learn quickly in a fast-changing environment. The role is part time (17.5 hours per week) and offered as part of a job-share arrangement, with some evening and weekend work required. An exciting opportunity has become available to join the University of Southampton’s outstanding Southampton Sport team as a Sports Operations Assistant (Lifeguard). Southampton Sport operates across several locations, including the newly extended Jubilee Sport & Recreation Centre on Highfield Campus. Conveniently located for staff, students, and members of the public, the centre offers a wide range of modern sport and fitness facilities, including: A large new gym with over 200 Technogym exercise stations Inclusive fitness equipment suitable for all abilities A 6-lane, 25-metre swimming pool A split-level, 150-station fitness suite (TAS Athletes Programme) Two sports halls featuring 8 and 4 multi-use courts X3 squash courts X4 fitness studios including a martial arts studio A Technogym indoor cycling studio A climbing and bouldering wall Our wider facilities also include Mayflower Gym, Wide Lane Sports Ground, and the Watersports Centre for students, staff and the wider community to thrive through inclusive, sustainable, and empowering physical activity experiences. Our facilities operate seven days a week from 7:00am to 10:00pm, and we are looking for dedicated sports professionals who can consistently provide an exceptional customer experience throughout the year. The Role As a Lifeguard, you will play an important role within a motivated and professional Southampton Sport team, helping to ensure the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of our facilities. A current National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is essential, although applications from candidates currently working towards the qualification will also be considered. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. This project focuses on federated causal inference in heterogeneous data environments, addressing the challenge of enabling trustworthy causal analysis across distributed datasets while preserving privacy. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end investigation of novel federated learning strategies for causal inference. The role will bridge rigorous theoretical work with hands-on algorithm design and development on real-world datasets. The core responsibility is to build and validate federated causal inference algorithms through simulations and live demonstrations. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure all project deliverables are met. Derivation of novel performance metrics for federated causal inference algorithms. Analysis of causal inference models in federated settings using synthetic and real-world datasets. Design and development of novel federated causal inference algorithms and associated software APIs. Validation of algorithms via simulations and live demonstrations. Job Requirements A Master's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or equivalent. Strong theoretical background in statistics and machine learning. Knowledge of the basics of federated learning and causal inference is highly encouraged. Proven track record in research and development of machine learning algorithms. Proficiency in algorithm development using Python and ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow. Key Competencies Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university. Self-directed learner who believes in continuous learning and development. Proficient in technical writing and presentation. Possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
