Capitol University’s history dates back to 1971 when it was founded as Cagayan Capitol College by Laureana San Pedro Rosales. Initially offering secondary education and tertiary programmes in liberal arts, commerce, education and secretarial studies, it quickly expanded in the 1970s to include midwifery and a maternity hospital, followed by civil, mechanical, nautical and marine engineering, forestry, nursing and agricultural technology.
Over the decades the university continued to grow in both size and academic scope, establishing a Graduate School and expanding professional programmes.
In 2003 it was granted full university status and became Capitol University.
The university is located in Cagayan de Oro, a vibrant city on the north central coast of Mindanao, Philippines.
The university is comprised of eight colleges: arts and sciences, business and accountancy, computer studies, criminology, education, engineering, maritime education, and health sciences. Programmes range from undergraduate degrees to master’s and doctoral studies, supported by strong practical training facilities such as the Capitol University Medical City.
There is also the Senior High School, which offers courses in accountancy, business, management, humanities, social sciences, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
