Bukidnon State University

Bukidnon State University (BukSU) is a public state university located in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, Philippines. Formerly known as Bukidnon State College, the institution traces its roots to 1924, when it was established as Bukidnon Provincial High School. It evolved from a teacher-training institution into a comprehensive higher education institution and was granted university status through Republic Act No. 9456 in 2007. 

Today, BukSU is one of the major public higher education institutions in Northern Mindanao, providing accessible and quality education to students from Bukidnon and neighboring provinces.

BukSU operates its main campus in Malaybalay City and has expanded its presence through 16 satellite campuses located in various municipalities of Bukidnon, including Alubijid, Baungon, Cabanglasan, Damulog, Impasug-ong, Kadingilan, Kalilangan, Kitaotao, Lantapan, Libona, Malitbog, Medina, Quezon, San Fernando, Talakag, and Talisayan. This extensive campus network reflects the University’s commitment to widening access to higher education, particularly for students in geographically diverse and underserved communities. 

The University offers a broad range of undergraduate, graduate, professional, and doctoral programs through its College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, College of Education, College of Technologies, College of Nursing, College of Law, and College of Public Administration and Governance. Its academic offerings encompass disciplines such as education, business, economics, accountancy, hospitality management, information technology, engineering-related technologies, nursing, law, public administration, governance, community development, environmental science, development communication, and the humanities and social sciences.

In 2026, BukSU further expanded its academic portfolio with the establishment of its College of Medicine, becoming the first state university in Bukidnon authorized to offer the Doctor of Medicine program. The inaugural medical school welcomed its first batch of 32 students for Academic Year 2026–2027, marking a significant milestone in the University’s contribution to health sciences education and the development of healthcare professionals in the province and region.

The University’s transformation is guided by the Smart BukSU Agenda, which integrates smart education, research and innovation, digital transformation, responsive governance, and sustainable campus development. BukSU has strengthened its learning environments through technology-enabled facilities, including six Smart Learning Spaces and a university Lecture Theater inaugurated in 2026. These facilities support face-to-face, online, and hybrid instruction and incorporate interactive displays, digital learning technologies, videoconferencing systems, and other smart classroom features. 

BukSU also places strong emphasis on research, development, extension, innovation, sustainability, and community engagement. Its research and extension initiatives increasingly focus on generating knowledge that responds to regional and national development needs. The University has also expanded its international engagement, research collaborations, digital learning initiatives, and partnerships with government agencies, academic institutions, communities, and other stakeholders.

The University’s facilities include academic buildings, libraries, laboratories, technology and science facilities, nursing and health sciences facilities, covered courts, sports and cultural spaces, student support facilities, and other infrastructure supporting teaching, research, extension, and student development. Recent infrastructure investments have included upgraded laboratories, academic buildings, covered courts, solar-powered facilities, smart classrooms, and other projects across the main and satellite campuses. 

Beyond academics, BukSU promotes holistic student development through student organizations, leadership programs, cultural and artistic activities, athletics, community engagement, and student support services. Its laboratory schools also contribute to teacher education, educational research, and experiential learning.

As it enters its second century of institutional development, Bukidnon State University continues to evolve from its historical roots as a teacher-training institution into a comprehensive, technology-enabled, research-oriented, and community-responsive state university. Guided by its Smart BukSU direction and the spirit of “Dasig,” the University seeks to advance education, research, innovation, governance, and community development while serving Bukidnon, Northern Mindanao, and the wider global community.
