Brunel University of London, founded in 1966, is a university located in Uxbridge, London, UK. It was named after the Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel and in 2016, Brunel celebrated 50 years as a university.

The university is organised into three colleges – engineering, design and physical sciences; business, arts and social sciences; and health, medicine and life sciences.

It has five major research institutes – Communities and Society; Digital Futures; Energy Futures; Health, Medicine and Environments; and Materials and Manufacturing. It offers degrees in over 40 subject areas.

Brunel opened its Medical School in 2022, located at the heart of the campus close to all the main student amenities. It features state-of-the art learning and teaching facilities including: an anatomy centre; two clinical skills laboratories; a communications skills centre; two simulated hospital wards; as well social space for students and a student support office.

Brunel is a campus-based university, meaning students are never more than 10 minutes away from halls of residence, social and sports facilities, lecture theatres, or the library. With over 4,500 rooms on campus, Brunel guarantees accommodation for all first year students (terms and conditions apply). The facilities on campus include specialist laboratories for electronic imaging, bioprocessing and experimental techniques; flight, driving and train simulators; a 3D body scanner; an immersive ‘planetarium’ dome; visual effects/green room and a library with over 300,000 books which is open 24/7 during term time.

We invite applications for a Senior Scientist (m/f/x) in analytical chemistry. Your future position in the team is characterized by an active participation in research, teaching, and administration. The lab seeks a talented, highly motivated analytical scientist to pursue lipidomics research with a primary focus on shotgun lipidomics and its implementation into the MSC’s service portfolio. The successful candidate will work with interdisciplinary teams (clinical, analytical, and bioinformatic scientists), develop and apply shotgun lipidomics and related analysis to various fields, and streamline data analysis and integration across domains. Regular publication of scientific and methodological results is strongly encouraged. Finally, the successful candidate will present complex results clearly and concisely, in a manner accessible to a diverse audience of quantitative, experimental, and clinical scientists. The position is initially limited to 4 years, after which there is the possibility of permanent employment following a positive evaluation. Your future tasks: Developing and strengthening shotgun lipidomics as a service Involvement in research projects and studies International publications and presentation of results at national and international scientific conferences Participation in project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement Supervision of students at all levels Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration This is part of your personality: PhD in chemistry (or related topics), with a strong publication record in shotgun lipidomics. Profound knowledge of lipid structures and fragmentation rules. Solid understanding of the relevant concepts in mass spectrometry-based lipidomics and metabolomics. Enthusiasm for learning and applying new analytical methodologies. Broad experience in extraction techniques. Understanding of the statistical principles behind current best practices in the field. Strong experience using low-level programming languages such as R and Python. Strong communication, data presentation, and visualization skills. Therefore, English is required, and German is an advantage. Ability to work independently and collaboratively and simultaneous handling of several fast-paced projects. The School of Law and Justice Studies within the Faculty of Society and Culture is looking to appoint three Probation Practitioner Apprenticeship Tutor Coaches for a fixed term of 2 years to support the delivery of the Probation Practitioner Apprenticeship Programme. The programme is externally funded and the team work in partnership with the Ministry of Justice, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service and the regional Probation areas that it has responsibility for. It is important therefore that candidates must have demonstrable experience of working in the Probation Service in the first instance, as well as an understanding of the criminal justice sector more broadly and be able to evidence how they have worked with stakeholders in the past. You will be required to develop and maintain a relationship with apprentices and their employers with the primary goal of providing the apprentices with the necessary coaching support required for them to complete the Probation Practitioner Apprenticeship. You will additionally be required to work with key stakeholders, working together to integrate academic study with the specific responsibilities of the apprentices' work role. You will be required to have a sound knowledge of the work of the Probation Service and the criminal justice sector and also be able to demonstrate an understanding of the requirements of an apprenticeship and apprenticeship standards. This role will require regular travel to apprentices’ places of employment to support successful qualification achievement. The regions to be covered are: East and West Midlands, North East, Yorkshire and the Humber, North West and Greater Manchester.
