Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) is located in rural location in Palapye, around 170 miles from the capital city, Gaborone, Botswana. The university was founded in 2005 as Botswana’s first provincial university and a science and technology complement to the University of Botswana. The university has two faculties, the faculty of engineering and technology and the faculty of sciences. There is also the centre for business management, entrepreneurship and general education. Within these two faculties students can take a range of courses including mining and geological engineering, earth and environmental sciences, physics and astronomy and chemical and forensic sciences among many others. Courses offered at the centre for business management, entrepreneurship and general education include Chinese language and culture. The university's scientific research culture won it fifth place in the 2021 Nature Index for Botswana. The science, engineering and technical research park was built in 2011.

The Opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi This is a rare foundation leadership opportunity for an entrepreneurial academic leader to shape and position a School with significant potential. The Head of School will be a highly visible, externally engaged leader, providing strong academic, operational and people leadership to more than 60 FTE academic and professional staff educating over 690 EFTS students across public health, Māori health, Pacific health and social wellbeing, while delivering research with real‑world impact. Description The Smart Materials Lab (Panče Naumov Group) in the Division of Science and Mathematics, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit an associate research scientist to work on crystal structure determination using electron or X-ray crystallography. Candidates must have substantial experience in crystallography, specifically in the structure solution and refinement of small molecule crystals using either electron or X-ray diffraction techniques. While candidates with experience in structure analysis based on powder diffraction, neutron diffraction, or scattering data will also be considered, preference will be given to those with expertise in electron diffraction. Candidates should be capable of preparing samples, independently collecting data, and solving and refining crystal structures, including those that are theoretically and experimentally challenging, such as structures that exhibit twinning, disorder, or that change or decay over time. Proficiency in refining structures from electron diffraction data collected using a microscope or specialized equipment is preferred. The position is for two years, with the possibility of renewal, subject to mutual agreement. The successful candidate is also expected to play an active role in other projects and activities within the Smart Materials Lab and assist in supervising undergraduate or PhD students. Applicants must hold a PhD with at least 3 years of experience in chemistry, physics, materials science, or a related field, with a focus on crystallography. FoodPlant Pte Ltd Position: Technician If you accept this role, your work located will be at Senoko. Responsibilities: Provide support to ensure the facility functions effectively, while complying with the relevant legislation and statutory requirements. Manage equipment/ facility calibration and maintenance activities. Support in starting up utilities services timely in preparation for production operation. Ensure safety, cleanliness and order of the facility. Assist in the preparation of Risk Assessment, Safe Work Procedures and other relevant documents. Track records of all documentation including Risk Assessment, Safe Work Procedures, inventory records of consumables such as hazardous and bio-hazardous chemicals, electronic components and mechanical spare parts. Handle the procurement and logistics for apparatus and consumables. Provide support to staff in the preparation of materials and setting up equipment for production. Perform any other administrative duties and responsibilities and ad-hoc duties as directed by the head of the facility. Support R&D and commercial production for client projects.  Requirements: Minimum Polytechnic Diploma, or an equivalent qualification. Possession of a Class II boiler license is an advantage. At least 3-5 years of experience in a research or production environment within the food industry. Resourceful team player with a positive working attitude. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Note: You will be offered a Research Engineer role with a business title of Technical Officer.
