Join us as the Strategic Head of Hub for the ICURe Southern Belt (across London and southern England and South Wales) Your role You’ll be joining a university that is highly ranked in the UK for consultancy income generated and that has started 80 spinout and start-up companies since 2000. Your work could touch pioneering developments in cancer immunology, respiratory medicine, next generation diagnostics, clean energy and sustainability, marine, photonics and electronics and computer science. You will: work closely with Innovate UK senior leadership to align planned activity with the strategic research, innovation, and skills priorities of Innovate UK and UKRI. work alongside IUK senior leadership, delivery partners and key stakeholders build relationships across UKRI, accelerators, investors, incubators and the wider university spin out ecosystem across London, southern England and southern Wales. build long-term partnerships with key regional and national funding organisations to maximise opportunities for external funding, long-term financial sustainability, and delivery of commercial outcomes. Lead strategic level projects from initial creation to impact outcomes at the end.  Work with early stage deep-tech and life science university spinouts, supporting them to establish and grow, and help them as they secure funding, build their teams and enter the market. Work at a national level on the Innovation-to-Commercialisation of University Research (ICURe) programme and lead on building a national ICURe alumni engagement strategy. About You This role is a senior, strategic level role where you will bring networks across the whole of our region, and have excellent contacts with partners such as UKRI, PSREs and nationally focused accelerators. Regional government economic development contacts would also be valuable You should have substantial experience of working with investment and with spin out companies. You should be self-starting and able to develop relationships swiftly You should have the ability to work successfully from home but also be willing to travel regularly within the southern region and London, as well as occasional national travel. One position as a research technician (level 3) or senior research technician (level 4) is available in Dr Hans Michael Haitchi’s group in Respiratory Research, Clinical & Experimental Sciences (CES), Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton (UoS). The group is studying the Preclinical efficacy and safety of ADAM33 oligonucleotides as new disease-modifying asthma therapy in pre-clinical murine and human models as part of a Medical Research Council – Developmental Pathway Funding Scheme (MRC-DPFS) grant in 2023 in collaboration with Professor Jonathan K Watts from the RNA Therapeutics Institute at the University of Massachusetts, USA. We hope to move a compound forward toward Investigational New Drug (IND)-enabling studies and clinical development for severe asthma. Dr Haitchi’s group studies asthma and in particular the role of the asthma gene ADAM33 in development of asthma using in vivo and in vitro asthma research models. The posts will be full-time for up to 10 months, funded by a MRC-DPFS grant. Candidates must hold or nearing completion of a relevant MSc or PhD qualification (or equivalent). A background in respiratory research with experience in, molecular biology techniques is essential, microscopy and image analysis and animal models is desirable. We especially welcome applications from enthusiastic candidates with prior knowledge of a broad variety of laboratory research methods and human and/or mouse in vivo and ex vivo respiratory disease research models with a keen interest and willingness to learn new research methods as part of a research team in the UK and USA. The Finnish Museum of Natural History LUOMUS at the University of Helsinki invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher, IsoMuseomics for a fixed-term period of three years. The work will be based at the Finnish Museum of Natural History LUOMUS at the University of Helsinki, Helsinki, Finland. The postdoctoral researcher will join the IsoMuseomics project, and work under the supervision of Kyung Min Lee, the Head of DNA Laboratory and University Researcher. This position is part of Lee’s four-year Academy Project, funded by the Research Council of Finland. The successful candidate is expected to start ideally by September 2026. About the position The IsoMuseomics project aims to trace genomic changes across a wide time span - up to 200 years - to understand how environmental changes have impacted their genomic diversity. The project focuses on Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) as model system, that are currently threatened or vulnerable, which serve as important ecological indicator. By analysing historical specimens from museum collections (dried and pinned specimens), we can investigate how these changes are encoded in their DNA, across both spatial and temporal scales. The majority of genomic data will be generated from historical museum specimens, which typically yield highly fragmented DNA. The postdoctoral researcher will be primarily responsible for:  Designing and analysing genomic datasets derived from fragmented whole-genome data Conducting genome assemblies and SNP calling Performing phylogenomics and population genomic analyses Contributing to manuscript writing Qualifications  The position requires:  A doctoral degree relevant to the project (e.g., biology, genomics, evolutionary biology) Less than seven years since obtaining the PhD  Ability to conduct independent scholarly work Strong collaboration and communication skills Teaching skills necessary for the position  Excellent written and spoken English skills  Highly valued qualifications: Experience working with highly fragmented genomic data and museomics Strong bioinformatics skills Proficiency in command-line scripting and programming Knowledge of phylogenomics and population genetics Why conduct a postdoctoral project at the University of Helsinki?
