As the Faculty continues to grow, we are seeking an ambitious, collegial, and research-active Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Financial Accounting to join the Business School's Accounting and Finance Department.

We are seeking scholars with expertise in financial accounting who will contribute to excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching intermediate and advanced financial accounting at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with expertise in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). We also welcome applicants with expertise in auditing and assurance, including the application of professional judgement and professional scepticism in the audit of financial statements.

In addition to growing your academic profile and reputation, you will also be committed to shaping and delivering an exceptional learning experience for students, contributing to an innovative teaching environment using a variety of methods.

We are particularly interested in researchers whose work explores areas including strategic disclosures, regulatory enforcement and compliance, ESG measurement and disclosure, investor relations, the interpretation and enforcement of accounting and auditing standards, and auditing and assurance.

Position overview

The University of Canterbury (UC) invites applications for a continuing (permanent) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on mechatronics engineering. This is an opportunity to contribute to UC's growing impact on the national and international mechatronics and technology sector, supported by strong research infrastructure and a collaborative departmental environment.

While the position is housed within the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the successful applicant will operate within the Mechatronics Engineering programme, delivered jointly with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and across the wider Faculty of Engineering. Mechatronics at UC is inherently interdisciplinary, and the appointee will be expected to collaborate with existing staff and contribute to initiatives within this rapidly advancing field.

Key responsibilities


	Work with and grow research in the mechatronics systems field within the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
	Contribute to the undergraduate (BE(Hons)) mechatronics and mechanical engineering programmes by teaching design, dynamics, and control-related courses, using project-based teaching methods where appropriate.

We are looking for a passionate person who can contribute to the department's growth and UC's vision of being a leader in engineering research and education.

The successful applicant will have a strong research record in sensors, robotics, and automation, with a focus on primary sector applications such as agricultural technology and precision farming. Sound research experience in other compatible areas of mechatronics will also be carefully considered, including biomedical engineering, aerospace engineering, soft robotics, autonomous/unmanned systems, and sensor networks.

Preference will be given to those with industry experience. We are seeking someone with either a strong and credible pathway to developing an extensive industry network, or an established network of industry partners that can be further developed.

We are looking for enthusiasm for student learning and a positive attitude towards developing effective teaching methods. Previous teaching experience is preferred, including experience coordinating larger classes. The Position

Applications are invited for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Physical Geography, to commence as soon as possible.

The Department seeks a dynamic and innovative scholar with a strong foundation in physical geography and demonstrated expertise in applying artificial intelligence (AI) to pressing environmental challenges. The successful candidate will bridge physical geography with cutting-edge computational and AI-driven methodologies, contributing to the Department's strategic vision of integrating geospatial data sciences with environmental and sustainability research.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:


	Conduct high-impact, internationally recognised interdisciplinary research in physical geography, addressing geographic questions in areas such as land-atmosphere interactions, environmental change, and Earth surface system science.
	Publish consistently in top-tier, peer-reviewed international journals.
	Develop and secure competitive external research funding.
	Teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, contribute to curriculum development, and design new courses relevant to the Department's programmes.
	Supervise postgraduate research students, including MPhil and PhD students.
	Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration across the Department's three research themes and with external partners.
	Contribute to departmental service, administration, and knowledge exchange activities.


Requirements

Applicants must:


	Hold a PhD in Geography, Earth System Science, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline.
	Demonstrate strong expertise in physical geography, such as climate change, biogeography, hydrology, land surface processes, planetary health, or environmental systems.
	Have a strong record of high-impact publications in reputable international peer-reviewed journals.
	Demonstrate experience in, or clear potential for, securing competitive research grants.
	Have experience in, or show clear potential for, university-level teaching and postgraduate student supervision.


Candidates with 2-3 years of postdoctoral experience are preferred. Experience with AI-driven Earth observation data analysis, physically based modelling, ecological and carbon cycle research, public health research, or environmental monitoring systems will be considered an advantage.

Terms of Appointment

The appointment will be made on a fixed-term, full-time contract for an initial period of three years, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of the second three-year fixed-term contract. A highly competitive salary, commensurate with qualifications and experience, will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and a University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,250,200 (approximately USD154,350) for the position of Full Professor, MOP1,052,800 (approximately USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions. The remuneration will be competitive and commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
