Biruni Univeristy was founded in 2014 and specialises in health and public health teaching.
It is a private institution, founded by the World Education Foundation, which supports education, health and cultural projects in Istanbul. It was named after the 11th century Turkish Islamic scholar Ahmed al-Biruni.
Students can choose from 26 courses through the faculties of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, health sciences, education, engineering and natural sciences.
Students are encouraged to take part in research projects from their first year of studies. They work in a 153-bed hospital recognised as a leading institution for obesity surgery, corneal transplantation and cardiovascular surgery.
