Bialystok University of Technology was established in 1949 as the Private Evening College of Engineering of the Polish Federation of Engineering Associations.

Now the largest technical institution in north east Poland, faculties include architecture, civil engineering and environmental science, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and engineering management. Much of its research infrastructure was developed between 2010 and 2014 by 28 European Union-funded programmes.

The university offers several courses in English andhas more than 100 international agreements, including a partnership with the International School of Engineering at Tianjin Chengddu University. Overseas students who apply on time are guaranteed university accommodation.

Its main campuses are in the city centre and at Kleosin, close to Bialystok. The campus at Hajnowka, in the Bialoweza Forest, hosts an annual ecology forest summer school in partnership with the national parks and universities from Germany and Belarus.

Student projects include an annual entry in the Mars Rover competition, the "Photon" interactive education robot and an intelligent glove which translates sign language.
