Description The Division of Engineering and the Center for Interacting Urban Networks (CITIES) at New York University Abu Dhabi are inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate to join the research group of Prof. Monica Menendez. The group focuses on monitoring, modeling, and controlling the operations of multimodal transportation systems. Particular attention is paid to new vehicle technologies and data sources; as well as the combination of traditional traffic flow theory concepts with new empirically derived models and data science ideas. Applicants must have received a PhD in engineering, computer science, urban science, or a related field. Experience in transportation, in particular related to urban science is required. Additionally, excellent communication skills in English and scientific creativity are essential. Salary is dependent upon qualifications. The terms of employment are very competitive and include a flexible working environment, annual home-leave travel allowance, generous housing and relocation benefits, medical insurance with access to world-class facilities, as well as educational subsidies for children. Salaries are tax-free in the UAE (for US tax, the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion can be used). Job Description The successful candidate will: Conduct original research of international excellence. Design experiments (DoE) for the synthesis of nanoarchitectured materials and nanocomposites for supercapacitor applications. Support equipment procurement and effectively coordinate with international suppliers. Assemble and test supercapacitor devices. Prepare publications for leading journals and present findings at national and international conferences, workshops, and meetings. Communicate research developments, progress, and results to the research team. Identify areas for improvement within the research framework using integrated management approaches to enhance capacity building, maintain scientific rigor, and strengthen research studies. Support the development of research funding proposals, as needed. Assist in supervising M.Sc. and Ph.D. students, guiding their research work. Candidate Profile Given the multidisciplinary nature of ACER, the ideal candidate should have a broad scientific background, including: A Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Processes, or a related engineering discipline. A strong background in electrochemical surface science. Proficiency in elemental and structural analysis using various techniques. Knowledge of advanced structural characterizations (highly valued). Expertise in surface analysis, electrochemistry (including cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge–discharge, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy), electrode preparation, and aging tests (long-term cycling stability). Familiarity with risk assessment and safe working procedures in a chemical laboratory. Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in English. Main tasks and responsibilities Design, develop, and test IoT solutions for air quality monitoring and electric vehicle battery tracking. The project aims to design next-generation supramolecular materials derived from biomass for applications in water stress mitigation, nutrient retention, and soil regeneration. This work directly contributes to water scarcity resilience and climate-smart agriculture. Job Qualifications PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related field. Demonstrated experience in sustainable processing of multi-source biomass feedstocks and/or development of biobased/bio-inspired materials. Strong experience in Biopolymers, modification, and supramolecular assembly. Experience in developing biobased hydrogels or hydrated colloidal systems for water retention, soil improvement, or controlled release applications. Experience with biostimulants or eco-friendly soil conditioners is an asset.
