ABOUT THE SCHOOL/ACADEMY/DEPARTMENT The Global Cultures and Languages Hub is home to three dynamic centres: the Academic Literacies Centre (ALC), the English Language Centre (ELC), and the Modern Languages Centre (MLC).The Modern Languages Centre (MLC) delivers high-quality language instruction and cultural education in Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish. Our team of over 50 administrative and teaching professionals employs a student-centred approach enhanced by technology and community-based learning. Our offerings strengthen students’ language proficiency, cultural awareness, and competencies. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES There will be opportunities for Chinese language lecturer to be involved in a range of different types of delivery, such as: Credit-bearing Chinese language modules from beginners to CEFR B2+ level, and Chinese language modules for Specific Purposes, i.e. Business Chinese. Credit-bearing Chinese content modules for degree students majoring in Teaching Chinese as an International Language and China Studies, i.e. Modern Chinese or Classical Chinese. Non-credit bearing Chinese courses, i.e. Practical Chinese Courses and Summer School. Engaging with Continuing Support Chinese language and cultural activities. Mentoring students on their internship and FYP projects. HSK item design and invigilation. There will also be the opportunity for Chinese language lecturer to take on a managerial role with responsibility for the coordination and leadership of the Chinese teaching programmes. Additionally, there are opportunities for all staff to develop their careers by taking on wider managerial and administrative roles, as well as by contributing to both hub and university-level committees. All managerial, administrative and committee roles are appointed to on a fixed-term basis, thus providing all staff members with a range of options to take on responsibilities in areas that interest them. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Successful applicants should be educated to Master’s degree level in a relevant discipline (e.g. Teaching Chinese as an International Language or Chinese Language and Literature), and should have at least two years of post-master’s relevant teaching experience, preferably at university level. Additionally, applicants should have a good standard of written and spoken English, as this is the working language of the university. Familiarity with more than one language proficiency standard such as CEFR/HSK/ACTFL is a plus. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from candidates who can demonstrate a dynamic, current and innovative engagement in one or more of the following areas: technology-enhanced language learning and assessment design; culture and language integrated learning; Chinese for specific purposes (Business, Academic, etc.); communicative and task-based methodologies and project-based language learning. The Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for the position of UNIVERSITY LECTURER IN EUROPEAN STUDIES for a fixed-term position from 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2030, or as agreed The duties of a University Lecturer include providing teaching in accordance with degree requirements of the degree programmes within the Centre of European Studies (CES), supervising and examining theses, conducting research in their academic field, and contributing to the development of the Centre and to its shared responsibilities. Centre for European Studies (CES) is a multidisciplinary research unit within the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Helsinki, collaborating with other faculties. The Centre advances research and teaching in European Studies, understood broadly as an interdisciplinary field that examines European societies, their interconnections, and the institutions governing cooperation among them through contemporary and historical perspectives. The Centre serves as a host unit for researchers and projects, organises seminars and conferences, and coordinates the international, interdisciplinary Master’s Programme in European and Nordic Studies (ENS). The appointee will teach and supervise students in the ENS programme and contribute to the Centre’s research-led activities. The successful candidate will demonstrate wide-ranging familiarity with and understanding of the multiple subfields of European and EU studies. Teaching Profile The University Lecturer will teach and supervise students in the Master’s Programme in European and Nordic Studies (ENS), coordinated by the Centre for European Studies. Teaching responsibilities include, inter alia, coordination of the compulsory course Contemporary Research (ENS 301) and the Research Methods course (ENS 306). Additional duties comprise teaching of other thematic ENS courses, responsibility for one of the programme’s study modules, coordinating of internships and career-supportive activities, supervising and examining master’s theses. Academic study planning (HOPS) guidance for international master’s students constitutes an essential part of the position. In addition, the appointee will participate in academic administration and programme development. The primary language of instruction is English. Selection Criteria The successful candidate must: Hold an applicable doctoral degree by the application deadline. Demonstrate the ability to provide high-quality, research-based teaching. Show competence in supervising master’s theses and doctoral dissertations. Maintain an active research profile with international scientific publications. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of a research team to investigate and determine potentially critical Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) drone system vulnerabilities impacting confidentiality, integrity and availability. Key Responsibilities Participate in the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PIs and research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake or help guide work and demonstrations in the following tasks: Code exfiltration and binary reverse engineering. Study, understand and analyse mobile platform applications. Android app reverse engineering (Drone apps) Static and Dynamic analysis(experience in tools like Frida, Burp, Wireshark) Develop AI-assisted agents for automated firmware analysis and exploration Build a controlled firmware-replica environment for evaluating protocol security Design, develop and test control augmentation techniques. Adaptation of developed techniques for more generic use. Perform project documentation and crafting of research papers. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.  Job Requirements A good degree in Computer Science / Engineering or higher. Proficiency with code exfiltration and reverse engineering. Proficiency with penetration testing techniques and tools. Proficiency with software scripting and development work on desktop and / or mobile platforms. Key Competencies Self-directed learner who believes in continuous learning and development.
