We are looking for an innovative and analytical researcher for the position of a postdoctoral assistant in Modern History – Women’s and Gender History. You will be part of the Department of History and will work closely with colleagues here in Vienna as well as with international research networks. Your future tasks: Active participation in research, teaching and administration, which involves: Researching, writing and completing a (publication-ready) habilitation thesis or a second book in the field of women’s and gender history in the nineteenth and/or early twentieth centuries. While European gender order and relations should be the main focus of research, transnational, (post)colonial or global perspectives on European gender history are welcomed; special emphasis on the history of mobility or migration is advantageous. Strengthening an independent profile in research and teaching Publishing in highly ranked journals / conference proceedings Organizing meetings, conferences, symposia and workshops Being responsible for submitting project applications and acquiring third-party funding Independent teaching of courses and student supervision in Modern History as defined by the collective bargaining agreement (two courses per semester) Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance Involvement in department administration, as well as in teaching and research administration This is part of your personality: Completed doctoral degree in Modern History. The certificate must be available by the date of employment at the latest. Excellent dissertation Sound knowledge of women’s and gender history from the late eighteenth century on, as well as awareness of current developments, relevant interdisciplinary theories and central methods in the field Interest in Austrian gender history A record of international publications and of presenting your research at scientific conferences Didactic knowledge and experience in university teaching Social and communicative competencies, ability to work in a team and to engage actively in the social life of the department Very good English language skills (written and spoken), good German skills, knowledge in a further language is advantageous Experience abroad is advantageous as well as familiarity with procedures and structures of university administration What we offer: You will be employed for 40 hours/week. Your future tasks: We are looking for a highly-motivated technician who will support our research group in microbiological and molecular biological tasks. These include (but are not limited to): lab organization, media preparation, cultivating soil microorganisms, growth and activity measurements, nucleic acids extraction, PCR and dPCR, soil sample preparation for downstream analytical measurements. A particular focus will be the generation and curation of a culture collection in the Woebken Group. As such, the applicant should have experience in microbiology and/or molecular methods. This is part of your personality: Completed training in chemical engineering or biology (apprenticeship, vocational school, technical college) or equivalent training. Or Master’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology or related discipline. Previous experience with bacterial growth and cultivation is ideal.
