Baqir Al Olum University got its start in 1984 as an institution charged with improving seminarians’ knowledge of the Muslim world, Iran and international relations. As it expanded its teaching and educational activities in different fields of the humanities, it was subsequently upgraded to university status.
It is now one of Iran’s key centres in Islamic humanities. It selects the bulk of its students, who now number more than 1,000, from among seminarians. Students and staff explore social issues through the lens of Islamic jurisprudence and Islamic texts. Areas of study include cultural policy, strategic management of culture, media management, Islamic knowledge, and applied ethics.
In 2020, the university gained permission to admit foreign students. It has subsequently opened postgraduate places for international students. At the same time, it has expanded its international activities.
